Hi, my name is Valencia Hartono and I'm a senior at NYU Tandon School of Engineering pursuing a B.S. in Business and Technology Management (Finance concentration) with double minors in Mathematics and Computer Science. I grew up with an international background (being Indonesian, attending international schools in Shanghai, and traveling significantly in the Asia Pacific region). Meanwhile, I have academic and professional experiences across Shanghai, New York, Abu Dhabi, and Paris. These experiences have significantly broadened my perspectives and deepened my understanding of the world, and I look forward to exploring even more destinations in the future!
I'm passionate about the systems and strategies that drive businesses performance, whether through supply chain optimization, production timelines, financial planning, or aligning creative vision with operations. As a GLASS (Global Leaders and Scholars in STEM) honors scholar, I thrive at the intersection of engineering and business, focused on delivering scalable, human-centered solutions. I want to learn as much as possible to build the skills needed to become an effective leader. Having analytical and strategic thinking, I hope to leverage these strengths in my future career and endeavors.
Outside academics, I enjoy creative projects in social media, marketing, and digital design, with personal interests in fashion, dance, sports, and fitness.

How has the GLASS program impacted you?
Already, GLASS has profoundly changed the way I think about myself as a global citizen. It also sets up a framework to guide me into becoming a scholarly and well-rounded student, pushing and motivating me to go beyond my comfort zones.
What were the major benefits?
Career resources - Clifton strengths/weaknesses assessment)
A huge network - upperclassmen in different cohorts with more experiences
Funding of $10,000 each year - it allows me to pursue anything related to my academic or professional life (I could make my own business cards, purchase LinkedIn courses, take MasterClasses, purchase Adobe Creative Cloud subscription, fund study abroad, etc.)
What did you enjoy most?
I actually really enjoy the events that GLASS always hosts (Escape Room, Laser Tag, Haunted-House, etc.)
I love being surrounded by equally ambitious, hardworking, driven, open-minded, supportive, and scholarly peers
This hand-drawn map traces my personal and academic journey from the day I was born to where I stand today in my third year of GLASS. Each path, symbol, and moment reflects the experiences, challenges, and milestones that have shaped my identity, mindset, and aspirations over the years.
From the places that formed my perspective to the turning points that influenced my goals, this map captures the evolution of who I am becoming. It represents not just where I’ve been, but also the values, lessons, and curiosity that continue to guide my trajectory as I grow, learn, and move toward the person I hope to be.
This flag represents my commitment to wisdom, innovation, unity, and sustainable collaboration as a GLASS scholar. Its colors and symbols—from the mauve of emotional balance to the compass of global awareness—reflect the values of diplomacy, ethical leadership, and peacebuilding.
Drawing from cultural meaning, biblical teachings, and UN-inspired imagery, the design emphasizes harmony, resilience, and collective responsibility. It expresses my belief that peace comes from empathy, sacrifice, and cooperation—and that creating a more just, sustainable world begins with how we lead, listen, and love.
I created a visual introduction that captures who I am through the places, moods, and personality traits that shape me.
I highlighted the major cities I’ve lived in because my global upbringing is a defining part of my identity, influencing how I think, create, and connect with others. I also included my MBTI personality results, personal interests, and creative moods to give a fuller picture of my values, mindset, and the different sides of my personality. Altogether, this presentation serves as a snapshot of my background and what I bring to the GLASS community.
