CONNXION.OI to confront CONNECTION PARADOX

What we want to solve is the social paradox.

We designed a head-mounted、brain-computer interface communication assistance device.

We designed four functions for it, corresponding to four performance scenes ⬇️

1️⃣ Solve the Language Barrier, allows multilingual communication

Torico speaks Chinese, Mia speaks Vietnamese, their English is not good enough to communicate face to face, so they choose to talk on their mobile phones with translation function. But with connxion.oi (played by Gabby), they can communicate freely.

Scene 1

Script：

Torico: 啊sry my English is 呃(sign language)
Mia: Uhhh soo…. For the project… kiểu. U know what I’ll text
pray → the headband fall down from sky
Mia ( Inspecting the thing → push button and put on head)
Gabby: Hello! I sensed your struggle. Let me translate for you (speech bubbles back and forth)
Mia: So for the project we’re should create a model out of cardboard (spoken in Viet)
Torico: Okay I’ll work on it (in Chinese)

2️⃣ Eliminate the fear of awkwardness in communication

Mia wants to talk to her colleague James to discuss the project, but she is not good at starting a topic and is afraid of the embarrassment caused by silence, so she can only send him an email. But with connxion.oi, they can communicate freely.

Scene 2

Script：

Mia trying to approach James (a co-worker) but fail (anxious)l→ resort to email instead
*helmet appears, Gabby’s throws it in*
Gabby: Don’t worry!Take a deep breath, let me guide you through. First, say Hello!
Mia will walk up to James
*awkward pause and panic*
Gabby: Now, talk about the project you're working on. I sense that you both have that in common.
Mia: I’ve talked the clients they want a prototype to be sent to them soon
James: yea i’ve heard ...
Gabby: Great! Now, close out the conversation with a timeline and assure everything will be fine
Mia: We have 2 weeks...
James: sounds good. See you later!

3️⃣ Read the room (EQ) , eliminate discomfort in social interactions

Torico invited James to eat Peking duck on the weekend, but didn't realize that he was crying for his dead pet duck. Seeing James who didn't reply, Torico had to leave and send message to make an appointment later, but she suddenly remembered connxion.oi, and finally knew what to do.

Scene 3

Script：

Torico: Let’s hangout this weekend! I’m craving Beijing duck.
James * act offended*
Torico: What’s wrong? You don’t like duck?
*James cries harder*
Torico: I’ll just leave. *moment of realization, pulls out headband*
Gabby: Torico, wait! It appears that James is sad about his pet duck dying. Express your condolences.
Torico: Oh my god, I didn’t know what you’re going through, I’m so sorry for your loss. Let’s get chicken instead.

4️⃣ Personal understanding assistant, key information extraction

Mia is tutoring Torico and James for their exam next week, but Torico can't extract the key points from the gossip, so he decides to skip class and refuses this social opportunity. But with connxion.oi, she has confidence in the exam again.

Scene 4

Script：

Mia: blah blah blah the test is on Monday blah blah blah
Torico: I don’t understand any of this, I’ll just skip class. You all will not be seeing me next week.
James: *zones out* Okay got it!
Torico: How are you understanding this?
Gabby: It’s me ofc!
Torico: *shocked*
James: *gives Torico another headband*
Gabby: Torico, write this down, this will be on the test.
Torico: *writes down* This is amazing!

This is us exchanging ideas and preparing the script

This is me building connxion.oi

I was responsible for the design and production of the headband.
The script writing and performance design were completed by everyone.
We had an offline discussion and a rehearsal, and other exchanges were conducted on WeChat.

After the performance, the professor also suggested that in 2124, such a product should be implanted in the brain as a chip, which is also our idea, but it is really not conducive to class presentation! It is also not conducive to showing "interaction".

I think we ✅clearly demonstrated the interaction of artifacts, but ❎did not explain the complexity of the technology in a critical way.

In fact, using a head-mounted、brain-computer interface communication assistance device will increase people's dependence on technology and will also involve the issue of privacy leakage. . .

I think if we are given more time, we will design more detailed and beneficial functions for it, such as

not uploading the read information to the cloud,
not hiding that you are wearing connxion.oi,
only providing help in an emergency when the owner presses a button,
providing guided help to encourage thinking instead of standard answers, etc.

Critical analysis and assessment: 💞 Embarce link

The reason I chose to analyze their group is that my initial idea was very similar to theirs, but I think their design is more complete.

The initial proposal I wrote ➡️

I think the magnets are cleverly designed, and the plush + metal materials are very well made.
The performance is very interesting (like watching a sitcom), and the usage of the work and how to interact are explained very clearly.
Our group passed my proposal because we had a disagreement on whether "through virtual tactile experiences such as handshakes and hugs, to convey real emotional warmth" can be considered as solving the connect paradox. I think their group encountered the same problem as us, but still,

the gloves injected emotional "warmth" into digital communication through virtual tactile experience, making up for the lack of physical contact and emotional connection in pure online interaction.🖤
