User testing
User testing
During user testing, we had not yet completed the installation phase so we tested it on the table.
At this point, we have not solved the screen projection problem, and have not installed the stepper. We are still using water pipes and blue LED light strips. There are still many problems with the code.
This is the water pipe we used at the time, which was made of plastic and paper pipes:
Paste a layer of reflective metal paper on surface
Sandpaper to create an iron effect
Make a striking water pipe connection
Color it to simulate rust effect
⬅️ Feedback and changes (We successfully did them all):
Translation:
Replacing the water pipe with a socket and a plug is more in line with the theme of information and sending messages.
Write "I'm waiting for your test" on the canvas/add a small screen to highlight the theme.
The information flow is blue, which is too much like water flow and will mislead users. Link the content of the canvas with external devices (the sand is colorful, so the LED can also be changed to color. The effect of the magnet is silver-white, in the middle...)
Connecting the water pipe is too repetitive, and other elements are replaced in the middle-we chose a puzzle.
The eyes of the David statue were chosen for the puzzle base not only because of the action of "reading" the message. In the carving techniques at that time, in order to highlight the light and shadow in the pupils and make the eyes of the statues more piercing, the eyes would be carved into a heart shape. Although the reason was not to express passionate love, it fits the theme of waiting for messages.
The air pump should be inflated for 20 seconds first, otherwise the ups and downs are too subtle.
The LED for the first message transmission needs to be reset, and the second message transmission needs to be re-lit. The sand canvas also needs to be reset so that the previously accumulated sand falls while the text is changed
