This user-friendly program is specifically designed to track the students’ clinical hours as well as to document the evaluation process of clinical skills. This web based application manages key aspects of academic and clinical education designed specifically and exclusively for speech-language pathology and audiology training programs and is in compliance with the standards set forth by the Council of Academic Accreditation (CAA).
CALIPSO generates reports reflecting formative and summative assessments and provides documentation of both knowledge and skills obtained through academic and clinical coursework. Students are able to monitor and review their progress toward meeting the standards and, ultimately, demonstrate, through a completed Knowledge and Skills Acquisition (KASA) form, that all required knowledge and skills have been met.
The CALIPSO Rating Scale is a five-point rating scale designed by the members of the NYU CSD Clinic Committee to meet the standards set forth by the Council for Clinical Certification in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology (CFCC). It is used by field placement supervisors to evaluate students' clinical and professional competencies at both the midpoint and endpoint of the semester. It is shared with both students and field supervisors and is also located on the evaluation form in CALIPSO.
If you are a new NYU field placement supervisor, you will be sent an email by the Clinical Field Placement Team requesting a copy of your most recent ASHA certification and state license certificate(s) or you may email the Clinical Field Placemen Team (csdfieldplacement@nyu.edu). Once the Clinical Field Placement Team receives this information, they will be able to generate a PIN which will allow you to create an account. The Clinical Field Placement Team will provide detailed instructions on how to access and use the system. Additionally, the Clinical Field Placement Team will remain available to troubleshoot any issues. Please refer to the Registering for CALIPSO Walkthrough.

Students are required to evaluate their field placement supervisor and field placement. An anonymous copy of the evaluation will be sent to the field placement supervisor after a few semesters. Do not hesitate to reach out to the Clinical Field Placement Team with any questions related to the outcome of the field placement supervisor evaluation form.
Students with multiple field placement supervisors at one field placement should receive one midterm and final evaluation from each field placement supervisor. Students attending more than one field placement should receive a midterm and final evaluation at each site.
Students with multiple field placement supervisors at one field placement should receive one midterm and final evaluation from each field placement supervisor. Students attending more than one field placement should receive a midterm and final evaluation at each site.
A midterm evaluation is not required for students attending a site for six weeks or less. However, an informal review at the midpoint of the field placement experience is recommend to discuss student strengths and suggested areas for improvement.
Field placement supervisors can locate their specific student in CALIPSO based off their student’s anticipated graduation date. The cohort will start with ‘CAMPUS.’ The Clinical Field Placement Team will outline their student’s graduation date in their correspondence with you throughout the semester.
