The Department of Communicative Sciences and Disorders at NYU Steinhardt is committed to a policy where all students, staff, and clients are treated equitably – that is without regard to race, color, creed, religion, national origin, citizenship status, gender, sexual orientation, marital or parental status, age, physical or mental disability, or any other legally protected characteristic.
The institution and program comply with all applicable federal, New York State and New York City laws, regulations and executive orders pertaining thereto.
Our department collaborates with the Moses Center to uphold New York University's commitment to provide equal educational opportunity and participation for students with disabilities. The Moses Center works with NYU students to determine appropriate and reasonable accommodations that support equality across all educational settings. Accommodations and disability services are designed to encourage independence and self-advocacy, but do not guarantee success.
Students with physical or learning disabilities that may impact their ability to participate in clinical tasks are required to present the appropriate documentation and register with the Moses Center. Reasonable clinical accommodations are developed in collaboration with the department on a case-by-case basis. If accommodations are required, the Clinical Field Placement Team will communicate with the field placement supervisor(s) and/or any additional parties deemed necessary by the field placement.
Students may request accommodations at any point within their Clinical Practicum and Field Placement Sequence; however accommodations are not retroactive. If accommodations are requested by the student after their start date and the field placement is unable to meet the reasonable accommodations, the Department and the Moses Center representatives will facilitate a reasonable course of action.
The Council on Academic Accreditation in Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology (CAA) accredits our Master of Science program in Communicative Sciences and Disorders at New York University. The M.S. program meets both the academic and practicum requirements for licensure as a speech-language pathologist in the State of New York, the standards for the Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) in Speech-Language Pathology from the American Speech Language and Hearing Association (ASHA), as well as the conditions for the Initial New York State Certification in Teaching Students with Speech and Language Disabilities (TSSLD).
The Department of CSD is currently researching state requirements for professional licensure and/or certification outside of the State of New York as it relates to communicative sciences and disorders. Please contact csdfieldplacement@nyu.edu for additional information.
The Department of Communicative Sciences and Disorders developed the Committee for Belonging, Justice, and Social Change in order to facilitate systemic change in our department toward promoting racial justice, inclusivity, and belonging.
