NYU Athletics and the Office of Student-Athlete Excellence foster student-athlete growth and development by offering workshops, resource materials, and various programming events throughout the year. In order to assist in meeting the demands and various responsibilities of being a student-athlete at NYU, Violet Skills programming promotes development in the following areas: academics, athletics, career development, personal development, and community service.

New Student-Athlete Orientation (NSAO) is implemented to introduce all first time NYU student-athletes (freshmen, transfers, and returning students/new athletes) to the expectations of NYU Athletics.
One of the most effective ways to build community is through peer mentorship. The AAO works with our TC peer mentors to develop and implement NSAO!
The Violet Leaders are a select group of Varsity student-athletes that have demonstrated a desire to serve the athletics community as mentors and emerging leaders for their peers. These students help transition new student-athletes into NYU and lead our community in the development of leadership, communication, and mentorship skills.
The Violet Leaders program is comprised of two leadership groups, Transition Coaches (TCs) and Leadership Progam Coordinators (LPCs). For more information on both of these roles, visit the Violet Leaders page.
The Student-Athlete Advisory Committee is comprised of at least two representatives from each of our 23 varsity athletic teams. The committee meets bi-weekly and works closely with the OSAE to help develop and promote our student-athlete development programs in the areas of career development, community service and athletics community engagement.

The OSAE regularly arranges drop in times where athletes can meet with a career coach from the Wasserman Center. A Wasserman Career Coach also works closely with the Transition Coaches to assist with sharpening their transferable leadership skills!
