The Usability Lab hosts a semesterly internship program, which provides a great opportunity for students to learn the basics of user experience research as well as the daily operations of a rapidly scaling usability research lab.
The Usability Lab Intern is responsible for supporting the Lab with daily research operations and protocols, such as conducting research sessions with the guidance of the Lab researcher, formatting research scripts and protocols to meet usability research best practices, compiling data sets, and performing research analysis.
Enhanced knowledge of UX research methodologies, tools, and applications
Skills in participant recruitment and management
Experience with observing and taking notes for meaningful insights during research sessions
Experience with facilitating research sessions in collaboration with the UX Analyst
Experience with reporting research findings and developing UX artifacts
Certificate of completion and project work for a research/design portfolio

Dana Sy-Ching is a senior at NYU Tandon’s Integrated Design and Media program. With her passion for problem-solving and design, she aspires to become a product and experience designer. Her goal is to utilize design to create positive impacts in sustainability, accessibility, mental health, and connectivity. Beyond design, Dana’s interests include photography, ethics, dance, neuroscience, and coding. In her free time, she enjoys watching funny shows, walking, reading, and exploring new places.
Cathy Xu is a rising Senior pursuing a BS in Integrated Digital Media at NYU Tandon school of Engineering with a minor in disability studies. Cathy aspired to work in the UX related field after graduation. She is passionate about designing accessible digital tools and apple principles of universal design. In her free time, Cathy loves to travel around the world and hanging out with family and friends.
