Scholarship and Financial Education for Your Silver Degree
There are several offices at NYU dedicated to addressing questions or concerns, about paying for your education, understanding your financial aid, and paying your bill.
The Scholarship and Financial Education Office at Silver can assist with scholarship related questions.
The university’s main Office of Financial Aid can answer questions about federal aid including the processing of FAFSA, loans, or work study.
The NYU Financial Education Office who provide resources and tools for all students, regardless of your family’s financial circumstances or your existing level of financial knowledge.
The Bursar’s Office handles matters related to payments, refunds, payment plans, payment methods, and your bill.

Practicum Onboarding Costs Reimbursement
Understanding the immediate difficulty many students face regarding practicum placement agency-required onboarding costs, we have identified funding to offset these costs for students with need. Learn more and submit for reimbursement here.
Moving Forward Fund
The Silver Moving Forward Fund was created in Spring 2020 to provide small grants up to $300 to BS and MSW graduating students who are struggling with many of the additional costs associated with graduation and accessing critical credentialing. Mark your calendar: Moving Forward Fund Applications open in late February 2025.
Courtesy Meals
NYU Courtesy Meals is a short-term, emergency resource for students facing an unexpected financial situation and are unable to afford meals or groceries. Courtesy Meals are accepted at our NYC campus only. Learn more about Courtesy Meals here.
Note location hours of operation may vary during the weekday. Closed weekends and holidays; in a crisis situation on a weekend or holiday, please call the Wellness Exchange at 212-443-9999.
Swipe It Forward
The Swipe It Forward program is a collaboration between NYU Dining, Student Government Assembly, and the Office of the Dean of Students, that enables meal plan members to donate meal swipes to fellow food insecure students in need.
Silver Shelf: A Basic Needs Resource Hub
Your one-stop shop at 1 Washington Square North Room G13 for non-perishable and perishable food and grocery products, academic materials like DSMs, ASWB exam prep workbooks, books, and personal hygiene products. The Silver Shelf is open to students during building hours (Monday - Friday, 7AM - 10PM).
Laptop Loans
NYU students, faculty, and staff can borrow a Mac or PC laptop from Bobst and Dibner Libraries. Laptops have wireless Internet access and printing capability, and include productivity software (word processing, etc.). Learn more about laptop loans here.
Childcare Subsidy Application
The Fall 2024 Childcare Subsidy Application is now open. To be eligible, graduate students must be enrolled full-time and have a child under six (6) years of age. More details about eligibility and the link to the application can be found on the website.
Wasserman Center Internship Grant
The Wasserman Center Internship Grant was established to provide financial assistance to students pursuing unpaid internships in qualifying industries that do not traditionally pay their interns. The Wasserman Center offers $1,200 grants during the fall and spring semesters, and $2,000 grants during the summer. Applications are reviewed by Wasserman Center staff and representatives from various NYU academic departments along with feedback from the Office of Financial Aid.
Conference Attendance Grant
Presenting an academic paper, a creative project, or a performance exhibit at an academic or professional conference is invaluable to the growth of a student’s intellectual profile and can be beneficial to a student’s future career beyond NYU. The purpose of the Conference Attendance Grant is to off-set the cost of registration and participation in an academic or professional conference.
Conference Organization Grant
Organizing a conference is a unique way for students to facilitate discussions on a range of disciplinary and professional topics by creating a forum for intellectual and professional development. Conference organization is also a valuable experience that will enrich a student’s academic or career profile. The purpose of the Conference Organization Grant is to off-set the cost of organizing a conference at NYU.
Challenges Related to Economic Accessibility
If you are in need of support regarding access to technology, food, or housing, please complete the NYU Student Emergency Fund application and also share your needs with us through the school’s Silver Emergency Resource Needs Notification Form. Silver’s form allows the Student Affairs team to engage directly with you and connect you to available resources and support.
Metro New York Area Sponsored Basic Needs Programs
Resources that provide essential services including food, housing, material goods, transportation and utilities for individuals with low or fixed incomes, people who are homeless, older adults and/or people with disabilities.
Foodbank NYC | For students who don’t know where their next meal will come from.
Reduced-Fare OMNY | Reduced fares for MTA riders who are 65 or older, have qualifying disabilities, and or are in a low-income household in NYC.
NJ Transit Student Savings | Fare options for students discounts on travel to college classes, parochial or public schools.
Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)| For students who need assistance affording groceries.
The College Student Pantry | Food pantry program for college and graduate students in NYC.
