Scholars will work with CCL staff to complete short assignments throughout the summer program to track their progress each year they participate in CCL. Assignments include:
Short readings:
Scholars may be assigned short reading assignments or other short assignments by faculty to assist with discussions around the topics described in the syllabi.
Daily written reflection:
Each day scholars will write a short reflection based on their experience. Scholars will be given prompts to guide their reflective thinking. Reflections should be used both to unpack some of the lessons from the NYU professors and CCL advisors, as well as take a step back and understand why participating in a program like CCL is important.
Examples of prompts include: Why did you choose to participate in this Immersive content? What have you learned today? What surprised you about what you learned today? Who did you meet today, and why did they stand out? How do you think you can use this experience in your college and career journey? What is one challenging or positive aspect you experienced today?
Scholars submit written reflections every day, they will be archived and returned to the student next year to see their own growth over time.
Video reflection:
The last day of the summer program, scholars will record a brief (3 minute max) video of themselves summarizing their experience. Students should share highlights of the program, major takeaways, people they met that stand out to them, and lessons learned.
Videos will be archived, threaded together each year a student participates in CCL and shared back with them after high school graduation.
Network map project (optional)
Scholars are encouraged to begin a network map of the various professors, students, alumni, and professionals they meet throughout the program. The network map will become a crucial component of the CCL program for networking practice and relationship building.
For Summer 2021, the network map is optional and students will be guided through this assignment to explain the reasoning behind a tool like this.
