Being a CCL Scholar Means
Students enrolled in College & Career Lab have made a commitment to attend at least one Practice Lab session in the Fall and Spring semesters each year and take part in CCL activities until the summer after high school graduation.
At the completion of each summer CCL Scholars receive:
A digital completion certificate
Non-credit (zero credit) bearing transcript from NYU
Network and mind map, reflection journal, and critical skills to navigate high school and beyond
Attendance is mandatory. Students are expected to be on time and fully engaged. More than one absence in the two-week duration may result in dismissal from the program.
*Check your content area for detailed information on your program of study for this summer
If you are expected to be absent from CCL, please email collegecareerlab@nyu.edu to let us know.
Parents and Guardians are invited to join their students for College & Career Lab events. This summer all events will be held remotely over Zoom.

Please take some time to familiarize yourself with Zoom if you have not used it before.
Students are expected to actively participate in morning and afternoon sessions held over Zoom to facilitate a collaborative learning experience. Please come prepared not only to listen and learn, but to share as well, as your participation will enrich the experience for you, your peers, and the CCL staff.
The program staff will work with students to create a social contract of classroom norms and rules on the first day of the program. This social contract will be decided on with all students and each student will agree to the ground rules that have been set.
Students should be aware that individual schools may have their own requirements, including turning cameras on during sessions, muting your microphone, or raising your virtual hand to ask questions. These specific requirements will be addressed at the beginning of each session.
Students are expected to follow online classroom guidelines set out by each school, faculty, or participating program partner to facilitate a respectful online learning space.
Students are expected to complete assignments as described in the syllabi throughout the program.
Scholars will work with CCL staff to complete short assignments throughout the summer program to track their progress each year they participate in CCL. Assignments include:
Daily written reflection:
Each day scholars will write a short reflection based on their experience. Scholars will be given prompts to guide their reflective thinking. Reflections should be used both to unpack some of the lessons from the NYU professors and CCL advisors, as well as take a step back and understand why participating in a program like CCL is important.
Examples of prompts include: Why did you choose to participate in this Immersive content? What have you learned today? What surprised you about what you learned today? Who did you meet today, and why did they stand out? How do you think you can use this experience in your college and career journey? What is one challenging or positive aspect you experienced today?
Scholars submit written reflections every day, they will be archived and returned to the student next year to see their own growth over time.
Video reflection:
On the last day of the summer program, scholars will record a brief (3 minute max) video of themselves summarizing their experience. Students should share highlights of the program, major takeaways, people they met that stand out to them, and lessons learned.
Videos will be archived, threaded together each year a student participates in CCL and shared back with them after high school graduation.
Mini Presentation:
On the last day of the summer program, scholars will make a brief presentation to their peers.
They will outline and draft a 2 - 3 minute presentation over their major takeaways from the content area or CCL curriculum as an exercise in condensing multiple ideas for public speaking.
Network map project (optional):
Scholars are encouraged to begin a network map of the various professors, students, alumni, and professionals they meet throughout the program. The network map will become a crucial component of the CCL program for networking practice and relationship building.
For Summer 2021, the network map is optional and students will be guided through this assignment to explain the reasoning behind a tool like this.
P articipate and be present
R espect – different opinions, listen & respond with care
O pen and honest communication
C onfidentiality – personal stories stay in the room
E ngage with new ideas
S pace, make it and take it
S elf Care – process, debrief, take time resources
We encourage students to dress comfortably, as they will be online for a majority of the day. However, students should dress as they would for a normal, in-person school day. They will be interacting with NYU faculty members, guest speakers, and other staff.
Any student who needs an accommodation due to a chronic, psychological, visual, mobility and/or learning disability, or is Deaf or Hard of Hearing should register with the Moses Center for Student Accessibility.

All of the online platforms you will use for your program can be found in your NYUHome.
Log into NYUHome with your NYU netID and password.
Platforms such as Zoom, CCL Google Site, and Brightspace can be found in the Academics tab of NYUHome
*If a student has difficulties accessing technology needed for CCL they should contact the CCL staff and we will provide support for them.
Respectful behavior is expected at all times to create a positive and constructive learning environment.
Disruptive behavior will not be tolerated. Disruptive behavior includes interrupting sessions and presenters, distracting peers, speaking out of turn, and disrespecting presenters, peers, and staff.
Students should not share Zoom links with anyone not enrolled in CCL.
Policies for warning and dismissal:
Program staff will first privately message a student who is being disruptive to ask them to redirect attention to the presenter, to mute their mic or turn their camera off.
If the student continues to disrupt the session, program staff will then speak to the student individually which will be considered the (1st) warning. If the student continues to be disruptive, program staff will remove the student from the online classroom.
Students will receive an email with an explanation of why they were removed and how to recorrect this for the next set of activities.
Parents and guardians will not be contacted after the first warning in an effort to allow the student to recorrect their actions.
The same process as above will follow should the student continue disruptive behavior.
This will be considered a (2nd) warning and an email will be sent to the parent/guardian.
The same process will follow should the disruptive behavior continue and if the student is removed from the session, that will be considered a (3rd) warning.
After three warnings, the student will be dismissed from the program.
