Students will work on three assignments throughout the three week virtual program, all of which they are expected to submit by the end of the program. Assignments will not be graded, but will count towards your participation. Most importantly, the assignments are meant to serve as effective tools to help students in their pursuit of college and career pathways.
Students will be designing their own MindMaps to track their interests and map out concrete pathways stemming from them. The assignment is a learning component of the program designed to help students understand their own passions and interests, and to help them make clear connections between interests to subject areas of study and career options.
Building Your MindMap:
For this project, students will have the flexibility to choose what platform to use, and whether they prefer to use an online platform or to use paper. Below are some suggestions, but we encourage each student to decide based on what works best for them. Creativity is highly encouraged! *All online platforms listed below are free
Google Slides
PowerPoint
Pen and paper, magazine cutouts, etc.
MindMap Structure:
Students will work on a Network Map. The goal of the Network Map is to help students keep track of all the session leaders, including faculty, staff, alumni, and program partners that they will meet at CCL, and the ways in which they connect with their passions and interests. Students can document session leaders’ contact information and anything that stood out to them from their presentations.
Building the Network Map:
Students will be able to work on Google Sheets or Microsoft Excel. Detailed instructions will be provided at the start of the program.
Network Map Structure:
Students will develop their own Elevator Pitch, an important networking tool that will help them professionally express themselves and talk about their interests, goals, and ambitions. This is an important tool that most people use throughout their lives, and students will work with CCL staff and advisors to practice developing their own.
We strongly encourage students to be present, focused, and deeply engaged with each of the assignments.
Students do not need to have a finalized or completed assignment by the end of the program. The expectation is for students to work on their MindMaps, Network Maps, and Elevator Pitch throughout their time at CCL, and to utilize these tools throughout their lives.
Students will have time during some sessions to work on their assignments with guidance from CCL staff and advisors.
In the last week of CCL, students will present their MindMaps - wherever they may be in the process - to each other and to CCL staff, and will engage in an open discussion with each other about peers’ projects. These presentation sessions will be video recorded.
All three assignments must be uploaded to Brightspace by the end of the program.
