I recently learned that I wasn’t able to play UCL volleyball the hard way. I went to a taster, signed up for tryouts, went to two different rounds of stressful trials, and made the team just to later find out I was ineligible because I go to NYU. The disappointment was immense, but I found an adult league for volleyball a week later.
Sports are definitely very important to my mental health, and I found that without having sports in my life after I’d had them for so long was a bit off-putting. Routine is super important to me and I missed having practice to end my days. I also missed having a team I could turn to when I was having a bad day, and playing in a scrimmage to take my mind off of things for a couple hours. This is why I am elated to have found a way to play my sport competitively, and why I am excited to potentially help others find a way to play their sports. So, if you’ve been feeling anything like I have, this could be a great opportunity!
Adult league volleyball is definitely different from my previous experience playing club and high school volleyball, but it was exactly what I needed to feel the competitive spirit again. I’m not sure how other adult leagues work, but for me, we practice once a week, and have games about every other weekend. It’s totally chill, but also super fun and a good level of play.
I am not entirely sure what these other adult league sports will be like, but I thought of every sport I could think of that had adult leagues available for everyone to participate in. So, if you are like me and missing your sport, check out these links and give it a shot! If your sport isn’t listed here it’s also super easy to look up “(Name of sport) adult league London” on Google and find super cool results. I just thought that linking a few here would make the process a little easier. Happy sporting!
