This movie was a piece of garbage. I went in with absolutely no idea what I was about to watch, only knowing that it was supposed to be scary. I will admit, the movie had some great suspense and a few good jump scares, but once the antagonist and his true form were revealed, The Invitation became one of the worst movies I’ve seen in theaters. This may seem somewhat dramatic, but trust me when I say the second half was the biggest letdown of the century. If you want to see a version of this movie that is actually good, I would recommend Ready or Not (2015).

“Fantabulous but my film bro be hating on it” @softlyvibing
I have extremely mixed feelings about this movie. I found it generally entertaining, and I very much enjoyed the plot twist. Of course, I think Florence Pugh always delivers. Harry I’m not so sure about, but I was able to look past it. A few things I couldn’t look past were the insane plot holes and events that occurred with absolutely no explanation. It felt like there was just too much they were trying to convey, and in order for it all to be explained, it would’ve had to be doubled in length. This opinion of mine may be controversial, but I really enjoyed the way the movie ended. I think the uncertainty of what came next amplified my interest and my curiosity. Overall, I really liked the concept and cast, but there were just a few things that were missing.
“I was forced AGAINST my will to watch this twice. Twice as in TWO times and as in ‘wasting a total of 4 precious hours of my existence on this earth to shut off my brain to this atrocity of a film.’” @hone3ypow3r

“HOLY CRAP. This movie is too good, the twists, the overall vibe of it, easily in my top ten favorites. My mind is blown, I want to watch it again nowwwww” @Raven
I thought this movie was entertaining, but there were a few things that didn’t sit right. The main thing I liked about it was the way the action scenes in this movie were filmed, they kept me completely engaged even during especially long fight scenes. I also liked the semi-plot twist, and I think it added a heartwarming touch to the end of the movie. The storyline was interesting, and claimed to be based on true events, but I think its historical accuracy was definitely lacking. I think Viola Davis did a great job, but her character seemed to be the only one with substance and depth. The main character did undergo some development throughout the course of the movie, but it wasn’t enough to call her dynamic. Overall, I think it was worth the 11 pounds I paid to watch it, but they definitely missed the mark with historical accuracy.
“A movie based on real history that is the opposite of real history.” @Layne
