Translating Osteopathic Understanding into Community Health (TOUCH) is a national initiative of the Council of Osteopathic Student Government Presidents (COSGP). This program encourages osteopathic medical students to engage in service throughout their community in order to impact those outside of osteopathic medical students and professionals. The purpose of the program is to expand osteopathic ideals and principles to those unaware of our profession’s values.
In accordance with the osteopathic philosophy of treating the whole patient, service goes beyond mere health promotion and can include a wide array of involvement that has a strong positive impact on peoples’ lives.
Osteopathic medical students complete TOUCH approved events in the community and submit their hours to a national database. Recognition is given to students who achieve 50 hours, 100 hours, or the most hours on a campus in a given year.
Platinum: Each school has a top participant who receives the Platinum-level recognition.
Gold: Students who complete 100 hours over the year receive a Gold-level recognition.
Silver: Students who complete 50 hours over the year receive a Silver-level recognition.
Events that qualify for TOUCH will follow the guidelines and regulations set forth by the COSGP under AACOM. Examples of TOUCH approved events include volunteer medical services, political advocacy, and global outreach. If you are unsure if your event or service qualifies, please visit the TOUCH website or contact Second VP for Student Affairs.
