Dear Parents/Guardians,
A warm welcome back to the new school year! We hope you have had a restful break and are as energized as we are for the year ahead.
To our Secondary 1 family members, we are happy that your daughters/wards are beginning their new chapter of education with us and invite you to take great pride in joining our 109-year-old Nanyang family—a community steeped in rich heritage and dedicated to nurturing the next generation of women leaders.
At NYGH, we deeply value the partnership between school and home. We believe that our students truly flourish when they are supported by a culture of respect and open communication. By working closely together, we create an encouraging "anchor" for our girls’ learning, growth, and emotional well-being. We look forward to modeling this spirit of collaboration alongside you.
Our staff have worked diligently to prepare a year filled with meaningful experiences. The school is buzzing with life and our students are currently enjoying their "Back-to-School" (BTS) programmes. For our newest family members in Secondary 1, we are focused on making their transition as smooth and joyful as possible. Following their orientation, they will participate in an Induction Programme, specifically designed to help them feel at home in their new environment.
Looking further ahead, we are filled with excitement as we pace ourselves towards the 110th Anniversary of the Nanyang Family of Schools in 2027! To commence this momentous journey from 2026, we are planning a series of commemorative events and fundraising initiatives, including our much-awaited public performances at the Esplanade Concert Hall (5 May) and NUS University Cultural Centre (12 May), as well as public funfair, Carnival Vibrante, on 15 August. These celebrations are a wonderful opportunity for our community to come together and honour our rich legacy. We look forward to your active support in making these milestones truly unforgettable.
I would also like to take this opportunity to provide the latest updates regarding the future of our Nanyang Girls’ Boarding School. Plans for NYGBS are progressing, with the school sets to close our boarding school for rejuvenation and recommence operations in the coming years. NYGBS will continue to deliver tailored school-based programmes for our student body and residential community, ensuring a well-rounded and enriching educational journey for every learner. We will share more on this when the final plans are mapped out.
Meanwhile, while this chapter will pause for a few years, we are pleased to let you know that our boarding school experience will still be available as an enrichment option to our girls at the Hwa Chong Boarding School, which NYGH will work closely with. This ensures that your children can continue to benefit from the same nurturing and learning experience they have come to know and love. Thank you for your understanding and we are deeply grateful for the trust you have placed in us as we make this transition as seamless as possible.
I am also looking forward to meeting each of you very soon at our upcoming Parent-Teacher Meetings (PTM). These sessions are a vital part of our regular engagement, and we warmly encourage your active participation as we journey together through our girls’ formative years.
Thank you for being such an integral part of our community. Let us embrace this year with hope and positivity, leaning into the Power of Me, the Power of Community, and the Power of Yet.
Wishing you a wonderful year ahead!
Ms Siau Fong Fui
Principal
We regularly write to parents/guardians to update you on school events and developments. The information is disseminated mainly via Parents Gateway (PG), and we seek the cooperation of parents to download the Parents Gateway mobile app to receive letters, notices and consent forms.
The school is transitioning to the MOE School Cockpit. Parents of this year’s Secondary 1, 2 and 3 students will not need to have access to the NYGH Portal. All essential information will be relayed through Parents Gateway.
Parents of Secondary 4 students may continue to access the NYGH Portal for important information. To ensure the effective dissemination of information, please provide us with an active email address by updating the email address on the Portal if you have yet to do so. This updated email address will be your new login ID.
In addition, we have transitioned to a paperless system by introducing an e-Student Handbook, scheduled for distribution in Term 1. Comprehensive details about the school are available within the e-handbook.
Please note that the school observes a five-day work week. Our General Office operates from 7 am to 6 pm on school days and is closed on Saturdays. School activities on Saturdays are kept to a minimum.
Our staff are not required to share their personal phone numbers and are not obligated to respond to work-related messages after school hours, except in emergencies. For non-urgent matters, we encourage parents to use official communication channels such as email or the General Office phone number. Our staff will address these messages during official working hours.
If you must contact your child/ward for urgent matters during school hours, you may contact our General Office and provide our staff with your child/ward’s name and class. Our staff will assist to inform your child/ward. Please note that students are expected to put their mobile phones aside during school hours.
The last day of school for AY2026 is 6 November 2026. There may, however, still be activities organized for the students before the protected vacation period starts.
For dates on school events and protected vacation periods*, parents may access the school master calendar at NYGH Termly (https://sites.google.com/nygh.edu.sg/nanyangtermly/school-calendar) or via the school website (nygh.edu.sg) under Quick Links.
We urge parents to check the school master calendar and avoid making vacation plans which may result in your child missing any school event. Students should attend all curriculum lessons and school events/programme for their learning and development.
To encourage work-life balance and allow students time to recharge, no school activities will be conducted during the protected vacation periods, except for special arrangements made for students who are taking part in competitions in the early part of the coming term, as well as selected student programmes, such as the Secondary 4 Work Experience Programme and Global Classroom Programme (for Special Programmes).
The protected vacation dates are as shown below:
We urge all parents NOT to plan overseas family trips during the non-protected break periods, so that our girls can complete all school-planned programmes in totality.
Home-based learning, also known as NY Empowered Learner Day (ELD) is an opportunity for students to develop into learners who are self-directed and intrinsically motivated.
ELD this year will be held on the following dates:
Term 1
16 Feb (Term 1, Week 7)
25 Feb (Term 1, Week 8)
Term 2
25 Mar (Term 2, Week 1)
08 Apr (Term 2, Week 3)
22 Apr (Term 2, Week 5)
06 May (Term 2, Week 7)
13 May (Term 2, Week 8)
Our school’s Chinese New Year (CNY) celebrations will be held on Friday 13 February 2026. This will be a normal school day. Students will attend lessons according to their usual timetable in the morning, followed by Chinese New Year celebration activities. CCAs will continue as scheduled after school.
More details about our Chinese New Year celebrations will be shared with our students nearer the date.
Please also note the following arrangements:
Chinese New Year Eve on Monday 16 February 2026: This will be our Empowered Learner Day (ELD) where students learn from home. Students are not required to physically report to school for lessons. [Note: Students who have National School Games (NSG) commitments scheduled for 19 February (immediately after the CNY holidays) will be informed separately should training be required on this day. Training will end no later than 11.30am.]
Thursday 19 February 2026: School will resume on this day.
As we celebrate this festive occasion as a school, we also remember the less fortunate in our community. Students and staff are encouraged to contribute items to help create festive hampers for our beneficiaries. Students may also choose to donate a portion of their hongbao money in support of these fundraising activities.
As part of the enhanced measures starting from January 2026, the guidelines on the use of smart devices will be broadened to include non-lesson time. This means that the use of smart devices, including smartphones and smartwatches, will not be allowed during school hours, comprising class lessons, breaks, co-curricular activities, enrichment activities, consultation time, etc. The students' devices will be kept in their lockers or school bags (not pockets) during school hours. Where necessary, we may allow students to use smartphones by exception. No smartwatches will be allowed in school.
The school will continue to engage our students on the responsible and balanced use of smart devices. Our goal is to help them develop self-regulation and good digital habits that support their learning and well-being.
The table below summarises our multi-pronged approach to nurturing responsible and mindful digital habits.
In 2026, our school will continue our efforts to reduce plastic waste by expanding the Bring-Your-Own-Cutlery (BYOC) movement to include both cutlery and cups. This initiative encourages students to be environmentally active by taking simple daily action to reduce single-use plastics. Students are encouraged to bring their own reusable cutlery and cups daily, as canteen stalls will gradually phase out the provision of these disposable items over the course of 2026. Washing points have been set up around the school to make it easier for students to develop this daily habit as part of their routine.
A strong school-home partnership is essential for our youths’ healthy and holistic growth. We will continue to work closely together on the following areas:
Respectful Communication
Listen to and understand each other’s perspectives and concerns regarding each child
Communicate kindly using official channels
Respect each other’s time during working hours
Role Modelling
Show our children the skills and values they need in life:
(a) Find joy in everyday experiences with our children
(b) Instil confidence by encouraging responsibility and believing in our children’s abilities
(c) Model good values in words and actions
Having Real Connections
Establish good habits for our children to stay confident and in control of their technology use
Build strong bonds through shared experiences and meaningful conversations
Provide a balanced mix of engaging online and offline activities
Our Parent-Teacher Meetings (PTM) are scheduled to keep you informed of 2026’s school direction and programmes. The dates and time of the Secondary 1 to 4 PTMs are as follows:
Refreshments will be served at 3.30pm for the Secondary 1 PTM and at 4.30pm for the Secondary 2-4 PTM.
Since 2019, Lakeside Family Services has been appointed by MSF to deliver parenting support services to our school. Its Positive Parenting Programme (Triple P) is an evidence-based programme that equips parents with techniques to promote children’s (aged up to 16 years) psychological, social and emotional competence. This programme is built on a tiered system that provides different degrees of parental support, and you will be regularly updated by the school on the talks and activities that Triple P organises.
We strongly encourage parents to participate actively in the talks and activities organised by Triple P as participants have found them beneficial.
Please watch the following video clip to find out more about Triple P:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1zMCeTLZMhXLayGd7vAJg7eKh508DUeOr/view?usp=sharing
To support parents as they help their teenagers transit from primary to secondary school, Triple P is organising a parenting webinar specially for Secondary 1 parents on 29 January 2026.
Please refer to the table below and the flyer for more details on the webinar.
This informative session will provide parents with valuable insights and practical tips to support their teens’ emotional, social, and academic well-being. We would therefore like to encourage parents of our Secondary 1 girls to attend this online talk.
As part of our NY110 celebrations, Carnival Vibrante 2026 will be taking place on 15 August 2026. This funfair will be open to the public, and all proceeds will support the School Upgrading Project and/or MOE-approved educational purposes.
Parents who are keen to support the funfair may do so in either of the following ways:
Donation in kind (e.g. goods or games), or
Referrals to potential donors or sponsors (individuals, businesses, or organisations)
We would like to thank all our parents who have responded to our message in 2025 and indicated interest in contributing to the funfair. Your generosity will make a great difference to this funfair. Should you wish to contribute further to the funfair or make a referral, please complete the form via the link below:

Once again, thank you for your continued partnership and support as we work together to make Carnival Vibrante 2026 a meaningful and joyful celebration for our school community.
Road safety is of critical importance for our community. The school works closely with the traffic authorities and our neighbours to manage the traffic situation during peak hours of morning drop-offs and after-school pick-ups. We seek your understanding and cooperation as we work together to ensure the safety of all and to show consideration for nearby residents. Please note and adhere to the following measures regarding both human and vehicle traffic near and in the school:
We strongly advise our students to commute to school by public transport as the school is well-served by public buses and the Downtown Line.
The side gate along Dunearn Road is locked during school hours. On school days, the side gate is open from 6.45am to 8.30am and from 2pm to 4pm. After 4pm, students may exit the side gate using their student ezlink cards via the full-height turnstile.
Parents are to alight their child at the drop-off/pick-up point in front of the auditorium lobby. (See refer to the diagram below.) Please do not stop at the school gate without entering the school to drop off your child, as this will compromise safety of all road users, including your child.
During morning drop-off at the front of the auditorium lobby, please note that you may drive onto either lane once your vehicle enters the school.
To mitigate traffic build-up at the entrance gate, which could lead to a long line of traffic on Linden Drive, please observe the traffic flow as you drive into the school and take the lane with fewer vehicles. This would ease the traffic and allow more drivers to enter the school for drop-off during the peak hours.
Please do not cross the centre divider on Linden Drive as you wait to turn into the school at the entrance gate. This would cause unnecessary bottlenecks on Linden Drive.
Given the expected high traffic congestion on rainy days, please set off earlier on such days for smoother traffic.
Please do not park outside the school (along Linden Drive) during the afternoon and evening pick-up period. This is hazardous to other road-users and violates the traffic rule, which prohibits waiting within the vicinity of zebra crossings. To alleviate the traffic situation along Linden Drive, parents’ vehicles are allowed to enter the school compound to park in front of the auditorium lobby. However, parking space within the school is limited. Whilst waiting, please turn off the car engine as required by law.
Please strictly adhere to the speed limit of 15km/h on the school campus as well as the right and left-turn direction at the exit gate.
Please avoid unnecessary honking.
We seek your understanding to play your part in safe driving, considerations for other road users and being mindful of the safety of students, staff and the general community.
We would also like to work closely with you on guiding our girls on traffic safety. Please remind your child to:
Use designated pedestrian crossings and avoid jaywalking or crossing recklessly.
Refrain from running to catch buses and avoid crossing in front or behind stationery buses.
Stay alert while crossing roads and keep smart devices away.
If your child must cycle to school, she should wear a protective helmet, demonstrate competency in safe cycling and is aware of the cycling rules.
Thank you for your kind attention and cooperation. Our close partnership is crucial in creating a safe and considerate school environment.
The School Health Service team will be at our school from 23 February to 6 March 2026 to conduct the annual health screening for all Secondary 1 and 2 students. Classes will be rostered during school hours for the health screening. Please note that students are expected to bring along their health booklets for the health screening exercise.
The Health Promotion Board will be offering the HPV vaccination to all female students in secondary schools. The vaccine used is Cevarix. The vaccination team will be at the school from 9 to 13 March 2026 to vaccinate the Secondary 1 and 2 students.
The Mobile Dental Clinic will be stationed at our school from 23 March to 17 July 2026 (tentative). The School Dental Services will be conducted for Secondary 1 and 3 students during this period.
Parental consent is required for HPV Vaccination and School Dental Services. Details will be sent via PG in early January to parents.
Secondary 1 students may continue to use their Primary School Smart Cards (SSC) for concessionary travel until end-April 2026. While waiting for their Secondary SSCs to be ready, students may top up their Bus Concession Pass for Secondary School Students using their Primary SSCs to enjoy concessionary travel through any of the following channels:
SimplyGo Ticket Office
SimplyGo Kiosk (accepts NETS and credit/debit card)
Assisted Service Kiosk
Top-Up Kiosk

The registration for National Registration Identity Card (NRIC) will take place in our school on the afternoon of Thursday 12 March 2026. Students who are Singapore Citizens or Singapore Permanent Residents and have attained the age of 15 years in 2026 are to register for their NRIC. Details will be sent to parents closer to the date of registration.
At MOE’s Committee of Supply Debate in March 2020, MOE launched the National Digital Literacy Programme (NDLP) for schools and Institutes of Higher Learning to help students strengthen their digital literacy. One component of the NDLP is the initiative where every secondary school student will own a school-prescribed Personal Learning Device (PLD).
All Secondary One students will have the opportunity to acquire a Windows PLD as part of this MOE initiative. Further details will be communicated in Term 1.
Students who need financial assistance in purchasing their PLD may approach our school’s accounts department to enquire further after the dissemination of information.
In compliance with the national policy on the use of PLD, the school will be onboarding the Device Management Application (DMA) from 2026 onwards. The implementation will be carried out in phases to ensure a smooth and well-supported transition for students. More details, including timelines and level-specific arrangements, will be shared with parents via Parents Gateway in due course. Thank you for your understanding and support as we work to provide a safe and focused digital learning environment for our students.
To support safe, responsible and purposeful use of technology, all students are expected to use their PLDs in ways that are positive, respectful and beneficial to learning. In the coming weeks, the school will guide students through the ICT Responsible Use Policy (RUP) to help them understand clear expectations for everyday classroom and learning use. The RUP will also be included in the NYGH Student Handbook, which will be shared with students in Term 1.
As part of this effort, the Device Management Application (DMA) will support the school in managing students’ use of PLDs during and after school hours, helping to minimise distractions and promote focused learning. We encourage parents to continue conversations at home with your daughter on responsible and balanced use of technology.
Gemini (Education Edition) will be available to all NYGH students through the NYGH Google Workspace. While Generative AI (GAI) tools can significantly enhance learning opportunities, using them responsibly and ethically is crucial. The ethical use of GAI is incorporated into our Citizenship and Character Education (CCE) lessons. You can find a policy outlining acceptable uses, restrictions, and consequences for misuse in the NYGH Student Handbook. Teachers will continue to guide students on using GAI properly in their learning. As "Respected Members of Society" and "Empowered Learners," our students must maintain integrity, exercise critical thinking, and demonstrate creativity when using GAI to support and enhance their learning.
Please be informed that photographs or video images of you and your child/ward may be taken during school activities and events such as classroom lessons, CCA, school camps, or school concerts. The school may use and publish such photographs or video recordings in school publications, the school’s website, social media channels, or other communication channels.
Enclosed is the GIRO deduction schedule for the year 2026 (Annex 1). The school will send an e-mail to parents/guardians to inform you about the details of each GIRO deduction prior to the deduction date. Kindly ensure that you have adequate funds in your bank account on the scheduled deduction dates. For unsuccessful GIRO deductions, a $10 administration charge will be imposed.
The monthly full school fee rate for the different groups of students in 2026 is summarized in the table below.
Students who are recipients of the ESIS/BSP/CLEP scholarship and students who are in AEP will continue to receive school fee subsidy according to the terms and conditions stipulated by MOE.
