Course Descriptions

Freshmen Band

This is a wind instrument only ensemble designed for performance of band literature. This course is designed for all Freshmen and incoming band students. This gives students the opportunity to play at the next level of music from middle school. This is a year-long course; performance participation outside of school hours is mandatory.

Concert Band

This is a wind ensemble (woodwinds, brass, and percussion) designed for performance of band moderately difficult band literature. This class is typically for 10-12 that decide not to audition for wind symphony. This course has an Honors Option and may be taken for Honors level credit. Students electing the Honors Option should complete the form found in google classroom. This is a year-long course; performance participation outside of school hours is mandatory.

Percussion Ensemble

This is an ensemble open only to freshmen percussionists. The ensemble will explore and perform a large variety of percussion instruments allowing students to get fundamental time with specific instruments that are used in the percussion section. This group plays along side the Freshmen band in concerts. This is a year-long course; performance participation outside of school hours is mandatory.

Jazz Band

This instrumental music course is designed to allow students to explore and perform the unique American Jazz style. The students will study jazz idioms including big band, stage band and jazz combos. The students will learn about the development of improvisational techniques, the history of jazz, including Dixieland, and will perform as an integral part of the music department. This course has an Honors Option and may be taken for Honors level credit. Students electing the Honors Option may do so for one music course once in their junior or senior year. This is a year-long course; performance participation outside of school hours is mandatory.

Wind Symphony

Wind Symphony is an advanced wind and percussion ensemble designed for performance of advanced band literature. Students that wish to participate in this ensemble should contact a director for audition materials. Additional opportunities may be provided for students to participate in contests sanctioned by the Ohio Music Educators Association and Music for All. This ensemble is for woodwind, brass, and percussion sections. This course has an Honors Option and may be taken for Honors level credit. Students electing the Honors Option should complete the form found in google classroom. This is a year-long course; performance participation outside of school hours is mandatory.
