texture stamps and tiles

As an introduction to clay, students are given a ball of clay and instructed to find objects around the room to create 5 different stamps to create texture on future clay projects. Students are encouraged to use non-traditional objects to create their stamps.

When the stamps have dried, we roll a slab and, as a table, they create a collaborative tile piece using the stamps made by the table along with with textured objects around the room.

This process allows students to get a feel for the clay while and learning how well the clay picks up on textures and manipulation by the artist.
