Hard slab - identity box

The final techniques students learn is hard slab building. Slab construction is similar to building a house or a box, except you're using clay instead of drywall or wood. Students draw a plan and create templates for their walls. After the walls are all cut out, students let them get leatherhard and then bevel the edges so they fit together like a puzzle. Scoring a slipping along the way, students build their boxes. When all 6 sides are connected, they attach their designs and then cut their lid off with "locks" or "keyholes" cut out so the lid fits tightly.
