8th Grade Project #1

SONG REVIEW

Using the provided sheet students will fill out the required information on their chosen SCHOOL APPROPRIATE SONG. Students will present this review to the class

Information for the top portion of the sheet may be found using www.amazon.com.

When writing about the song students should use appropriate musical terminology which may be found by utilizing the Seventh Grade General Music Notes which may be found on this webpage. Example: "The music has a fast pace and is loud" could read "The music is allegro and forte" When choosing the song for project choose one that interests you and discuss why you like or dislike the piece.

This project will be graded upon the following criteria:

General Information (Top section of the paper)

Commentary/Justification - in this section students should justify the rating that they gave the piece. Why do they like/dislike the piece? Use of appropriate musical terminology should be applied to this section.

Oral Presentation- The student will present their song to the class. After the presentation the class will have an open dialogue about the song discussing its musical attributes.


8th Grade Project #2

VIDEO REVIEW

In this project students will choose a SCHOOL APPROPRIATE VIDEO to write/present a one page summary. In addition a one page summary of the musical artist history should be included/presented (2 pages total). These summaries are to be typed in MLA format. These reports should be original material. Do not copy and paste or plagiarize.


Video Presentation Paper - How effective is this video? What makes it effective? Does it tell a story? Does it sync up to the music? Does the lighting represent the mood of the music/story? In describing the music students should use appropriate terminology which can be found in the seventh grade notes section of this web page. Do the colors of the scenery reflect the mood being set? Does the costuming help to tell the story? Does the filming effects help to tell the story (Black and White vs. Color/Grainy vs. Clear/etc) These are just some of the ideas that you may use to help to explain the video and its effectiveness

Artist Report - Who is this artist? What have they done? Give a history.


Project #3

Composer Project


Students will choose a composer that we have not discussed in 6th or 7th grade and present a project on this composer. They may use any technology they choose including but not limited to: Videos, Google Slides, MP3s. The sky is the limit on how creative the students get to be.

8th Grade Project #4

COMMERCIAL/TV THEME REVIEW

In this project students will choose a commercial or television theme to review and write/present a one page summary. Students should include factors to what makes the music effective as a way for the company to make people remember their product including beat, time, color, mood etc.
