The Social Studies program focuses on concepts relating to home, school, and the community.
The following units are taught in first grade:
Time for School- groups, citizenship, authority figures, rules and laws
In My Community- neighborhoods, communities as part of a state, country, and customs and traditions
Work! Work! Work!- jobs, goods, services, needs and wants, spending and saving
Our Earth, Our Resources- map skills, landforms, bodies of water, natural resources
Holidays and Traditions- Pilgrims and Native Americans, symbols and landmarks of our country and state, holidays
Our Country,Our World- historical figures who have influenced our nation
