NASA JOHNSON SPACE CENTER
ANNUAL SPACE SETTLEMENT DESIGN COMPETITION
STANDARDS OF BEHAVIOR
NASA’s Johnson Space Center has graciously allowed us to use their facilities for the weekend. In return, they have established some guidelines that we must follow while we are here.
1. There will be no smoking, consumption of alcohol, or use of any controlled substances in any of the buildings or facilities we use for the competition. Any violation will result in removal of the participant from the competition and parents will be called to come and pick up the participant.
2. Leaving designated competition sites during the competition is not permitted except in the presence of a competition organizer, chaperone, or team advisor. Please understand that your family considers the competition to be responsible for your safety and well-being during the event. You expose yourself to unacceptable risk if you leave the designated areas.
3. Any overnight work must be conducted in common work spaces designated for such work.
4. Separate sleeping accommodations are provided for males and females. Males are not permitted in the female sleeping area, and vice versa.
5. Competition organizers and/or team advisors and chaperones will be available at all times. If a circumstance arises that is not explicitly covered by these guidelines, please ask a competition organizer or chaperone and use your common sense in the choice of actions.
JSC SSDC is dedicated to providing a professional, collegial, safe and respectful environment for all participants, regardless of race, sex, religion or creed, national origin, disability, age, sexual orientation or other legally protected class as provided by law.
JSC SSDC will not tolerate harassment, discrimination or any other unprofessional behavior. Inappropriate language and imagery are not acceptable in any of the Virtual Event spaces, social media or any aspect of the Virtual Event.
Participants may not engage in any behavior that JSC SSDC deems to be potentially disruptive to the conduct of the competition, or to potentially infringe on the rights or safety of others, or otherwise violate the principles above. Any participants violating these rules may be sanctioned, expelled from the competition or subject to other consequences at the discretion of JSC SSDC.
Remember, you are a professional now. Your cooperation in following these instructions is expected and appreciated. Responsible behavior will help assure the future ability to continue the JSC SSDC competition.
