SPACE SETTLEMENT DESIGN COMPETITION
INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION
A subset of 12 members of the winning company at the JSC Competition will be invited to come to Kennedy Space Center to participate in the International Space Settlement Design Competition (ISSDC) at the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex (KSCVC), usually in late July.
Members of winning companies from all of the world-wide regional competitions, as well as from qualifying competitions will attend. There will be a maximum of 192 participants for the International Competition (48 per company), which will decide the ISSDC World Championship.
Typically, the companies meet informally on Friday night. The competition begins with the opening meeting followed by technical training on Saturday morning. The RFP is released around noon on Saturday and work within the companies proceeds during the remainder of Saturday and all day on Sunday. The company presentations are made to the judges on Monday morning. The awards are presented on Monday afternoon.
Most of the cost of the competition comes from the Aerospace Education Competitions. Hotel costs are covered for all participating students and for two chaperones for each 12 students for the period of Friday evening through Monday evening. Students will be housed 4 to a room and chaperones will be housed 2 to a room. There will be no gender mixing in the rooms. Meals will be provided for all participants beginning with breakfast on Saturday morning through lunch on Monday. All other meals will be at the participants' expense. The hotel information is posted below.
Travel
Iowans and Texans need to find their way to the conference hotel in Titusville, Florida. The competition is expected to be conducted at the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex, which is near Titusville. The nearest major airport to Titusville is Orlando International (MCO). There will be a van or other vehicles provided for transportation to and from the airport, with an adult driver. The Iowa and Texas Coordinators will work with participating students and chaperones to coordinate the arrival and departure times from the Orlando airport in order to maximize the efficiency of meeting in Orlando and being transported to the hotel in Titusville before the ISSDC and for returning to Orlando after the ISSDC is completed.
