Mission Statement
The Northvale Public School is committed to the pursuit of excellence in education. We aspire to foster lifelong learners who take responsibility for their own education as active participants in a safe, secure, and student-centered environment.
Our practices and policies are shaped by mutual respect, open and honest communication, ethical behavior, and personal responsibility. Our aim is to develop in each student a love of learning, strong self-esteem, good critical thinking skills, and an appreciation for diversity.
This commitment to develop knowledge, skills and academic achievement within our students is reflected in the innovative and challenging array of offerings within the gifted and talented program in accordance with New Jersey's Strengthening Gifted and Talented Act.
Education requires a shared commitment among all members of the school community, each supporting and complementing our ultimate goal – seeking to prepare all students for their role in a rapidly changing global community.
Formal Appeals Process (Review):
If concerns regarding an eligibility decision remain after an initial conversation or meeting with the G&T/Enrichment Specialist, a parent may request an appeal. Requests for appeal must be submitted in writing via email to the G&T Specialist, Mrs. Kathryn Zinn at zinnk@nvnet.org, explicitly requesting an appeal. Appeals will be reviewed in a joint session with the specialist and member(s) of the Northvale Public School administration.
Complaint of Non-Compliance:
Per the Northvale Public School Board Policy 2464 - Gifted and Talented Students, an individual who believes that a school district has not complied with the gifted and talented provisions of act N.J.S.A. 18A may file a complaint with the Northvale Public School Board of Education. The board will issue a decision, in writing, to affirm, reject, or modify the district's action in the matter. If the matter is still unresolved, the individual may then file a petition of appeal of the board's written decision to the Commissioner of Education through the Office of Controversies and Disputes in accordance with N.J.S.A. 18A:6-9 and the procedures set forth in the State Board of Education regulations.
