The Individual Series Events are designed for 2nd year and above DECA members to test their knowledge and skills identified by occupational practitioners as essential to success in a given career. Students who were previously members of DECA are eligible for these events. Participants in the individual series events will be taking a career cluster exam (100 questions) and 2 role plays with a business executive. A sample roleplay is attached to each event name.
The role plays will challenge students to perform management functions and tasks focusing on the application of financial data to business planning, including collection and organization of data, development and use of reports, and analysis of data to make business decisions. Concepts also include understanding financial statements and business planning.
The role plays will use concepts involving high-level financial and business planning, including collection and organization of data, development and use of reports, and analysis of data to make business decisions.
The role plays will use concepts associated with marketing and management functions and tasks in retail establishments, wholesale establishments and/or manufacturing firms primarily engaged in the marketing of clothing and related articles for personal wear and adornment.
The role plays will use concepts associated with marketing and management functions and tasks related to auto dealers, service stations and related businesses or auto parts stores.
The role plays will use concepts associated with performing marketing functions and tasks involved in providing services to businesses on a fee or contract basis or providing services to consumers.
The role plays will use concepts associated with performing marketing and management functions and tasks in retail establishments, wholesale establishments and manufacturing firms resulting in the sale of food.
The role plays will use concepts associated with performing marketing communications and functions and tasks that inform, persuade, or remind a target market of ideas experiences, goods or services.
The role plays will use concepts associated with performing marketing and management functions and tasks that can be applied in any retail establishment.
The role plays will use concepts associated with performing marketing and management functions and tasks related to amateur or professional sports or sporting events, entertainment or entertainment events, selling or renting of supplies and equipment (other than vehicles) used for recreational or sporting purposes, products and services related to hobbies or cultural events, or businesses primarily engaged in satisfying the desire to make productive or enjoyable use of leisure time.

The role plays will use concepts associated with performing marketing and management functions and tasks in retail establishments, wholesale establishments and manufacturing firms primarily engaged in the quick-serve restaurant industry.
The role plays will use concepts associated with performing marketing and management functions and tasks in a full-service restaurant or a food-service business.
The role plays will use concepts associated with performing management functions and tasks focusing on staffing, recruitment, selection, training, performance appraisal, compensation and safety training.
The role plays will use concepts associated with performing the ability to recognize opportunities and to act on them, determine needs, identify markets, utilize marketing research, identify
sources of capital and use management skills.
Designed to measure the student’s ability to apply reliable information and systematic decision making to personal financial decisions. This event is unique in that it only has competitors do 1 role play and a special personal financial literacy exam for this event alone.
All individual series event competitors will be taking a 100 multiple-choice career cluster exam. Depending on the career cluster for your event, you will take the exam pertaining to that cluster. (For example, students who have Business Finance as their event, which is under the finance career cluster, will take the Finance Career Cluster Exam). Sample exams for each cluster follow:
