Some people like pizza, some like chips, but then there are other foods people may like, that's weird to others: Chocolate & Nacho Cheese, Watermelon & mustard, Hot Cheetos & Cream cheese, pickles with peanut butter, or even salami with hot sauce like it’s a five-star meal.
At our school, weird food combos are more common than you may think. Maysa Davis, a 9th-grader at South CTA, says her food is simple yet bold. “Salami, & hot sauce.” And according to her, it's not just good, it's amazing. “Like heaven dripped on my lips,” she said.
That’s definitely a way to describe lunch.
Unlike some students who might hide their unusual tastes, Davis is not embarrassed whatsoever. “No, I don't care what people say. What I like is what I like,” She said. Honestly, the confidence she has may be stronger than the hot sauce that hits her tongue.
Davis also shared that her combo started when she wasn’t feeling so well. “I was sick one day, and I wanted to try something that would make my throat feel better,” she explained. “I tried it, and I liked it.” So basically, this combo went from trying someone strange and new, to becoming an everyday routine for the feeding frenzy.
Not every combo is a winner in her eyes, though, but isnt that everyone? One mix that doesn’t sit right in her stomach is Hot Cheetos & Cream Cheese. She said it makes her feel “queasy,” which is kind of funny because some students pass that combo down, and share it as if it's an urban legend.
Even though everyones taste is unique, Davis says weird food combos can actually bring people together. When asked how she feels when people share their weird food combo, she said, “I feel like they are comfortable around me, and it makes me feel happy,” She usually eats her combo in open areas because she has no point in hiding it. NO Shame, no secrets, No secluded areas. Just snacks.
Not everyone is ready to mix different things together like Salami & Hot Sauce, or Chocolate & Nacho Cheese. Some people prefer their food “normal”, and that's okay too. Weird food combos don’t always have to be for everyone. When a survey was taken about weird food combinations, 61% of people said that they have a weird food combo, 23% said maybe, & 15% said no.
Still, whether or not you think these snacks might be delicious, confusing, or should’ve stayed in the drafts, one thing is clear, food is personal. And for students like Davis, sometimes the weirdest combinations turn out to be the best ones you’ll ever try, or maybe the most unforgettable.
A survery was taken about Weird Food Combos, the following photo above is the percentage of everyone that may have a weird food combo, does have a weird food combo, or doesnt have a weird food combo.
