Video games are one of the most popular forms of entertainment played by millions each day, but one of the main parts of a video game is not just how the game looks, the genre, or how the game plays. Really, the key to making a great video game to keep players invested in playing is the protagonist.
A video game protagonist can have many ways of making the game amazing. For example, Frank West, the main protagonist of the smash-hit video game "Dead Rising", was released in 2006 by Capcom. The game focuses on Frank West trying to find the perfect zombie-invasion story by having a helicopter drop him off at a mall for 3 days to get his story captured and written. That all hits a fork in the road when Carlito tries to stop Frank West and Isabella from finding a cure.

What makes Frank West such a memorable video game protagonist? It is the looks, his iconic black jacket, skinny jeans, and, most prominently, his voice actor, T.J. Rotolo, who gave his all to make Frank West's voice memorable. The way the character is written, being a little sneezy with some of his lines, sounds perfect for his character, and gives the player an idea of Frank not really being a serious character, which gives a few laughs from the players.
Another example of a good video game protagonist is Arthur Morgan in the smash hit "Red Dead Redemption 2", played by Roger Clark. What makes him such a great video game protagonist, according to others, is how over time, when the story moves on to when more of his friends from the gang he is in dies, and he gets tuberculosis and the loss of his wife and daughter, the player will start to feel bad and sorry for Arthur at the end of the game, when he dies from the antagonist Micah Bell.

After talking about two of video games' best protagonists, I will analyze two of the best questions from the people interviewed about video game protagonists.
The first question I asked was, “What game has the best protagonist and why?” Sonny then said, “Borderlands because they have 4 main protagonists and you can choose either one of them.” -Sonny Fleming. What Fleming means by this is that having an open selection of main characters to choose from is better than just one.
The second question I asked is “What makes you feel emotionally developed in the main character?" Jose then said, "When will they reveal their backstory or trauma?” -Jose Iglesias. What Iglesias means by this is that if you want a main character of the game to be amazing, maybe adding some interesting backstory or trauma to get the player hooked into the lore of their character that could make them cooler or make their entire story sadder.
All of these main key elements, including character development, voice acting, looks, and emotional elements, are what can make the character you play amazing.
