4th Grade
This month, 4th Graders will be introduced to the "Weird!", "Dare!", and "Tough!" book series. This series focuses on three perspectives related to mean behavior and bullying: the perspective of the target, the bystander (who becomes an upstander), and the bully.
The first book, "Weird!", is from the target's point of view. We will read it and discuss different aspects of what students notice and feel along the way. Then, students will complete an activity identifying what they love about themselves. We will read and discuss the next two books in October and November.
5th Grade
This month, the 5th grade will complete a lesson on Cyber Safety. We will define cyber safety and discuss 12 tips for being safe online and with technology. This lesson is a precursor and companion to the topic of bullying and how to prevent it, which will be a school-wide topic for October. We will then assess their understanding with a card sort. Next, students will reinforce their learning by completing a related worksheet activity and, finally, be given the choice to sign a Cyber Safety Pledge.
