Mrs. King
School Counselor
Dear Patriots,
Welcome back to the start of another great year at Jenkins Elementary School! My name is Mrs. King, and I'm the school counselor at Jenkins. I have been here since the fall of 2021 and am delighted to continue working with students, families, and staff.
As a school counselor, I work closely with all stakeholders to deliver a comprehensive school counseling program that addresses our students' academic, social-emotional, and career/college development. In this capacity, I provide several services to complement our program.
Classroom Lessons (K-5) — Lessons are preventative in nature and we highlight various topics throughout the year. I visit each K-2 class once per month and each 3-5 class once or twice monthly.
Individual Counseling*— I work with students one-on-one, using a brief, solution-focused approach. I see students based on parent, teacher, or student referrals.
Social/Emotional Learning — These are skills or strategies built into classroom lessons or individual counseling to support students' ability to constructively solve their problems.
Consultations with teachers, parents, and administrators
504 Plan Coordination
Basic Needs — We can provide backpacks (until we run out) and basic school supplies for any students who need them. I can also help connect families to organizations that provide emergency or ongoing basic needs (such as food and/or clothing).
Special Events — I try to be visible and available during most special events such as Meet & Greet, Open House, Trunk or Treat, Book Fairs, Literacy/Specialist nights, etc. I even run the Crochet Club!
*As a school counselor, I must honor student confidentiality. While you may not be notified every time a student requests to meet with me or is referred to me by a teacher, you can be reassured that I will contact you if it becomes a regular habit or if you need to be made aware of specific concerns related to safety, development, or well-being.
Please get in touch with me at kingmm@nv.ccsd.net or (702)799-3200, ext 4301, with any questions, concerns, or needs so that we can work together to help your student be successful at Jenkins!
Thank you,
Mrs. King (she, her, hers)
