Hello my name is Brian Mulligan and this is my website for the expectations for teachers, students, and parents during their year on virtual learning in the district. Here at CCSD we have the upmost respect for all groups that are participating in their educational journey with us. This is why we would like you to take the time to read the expectations for your group and others this way we can all maintain respectful interactions with all groups.
This year the district has chosen to use the Canvas learning management system (LMS) as our learning platform. This site has been chosen by our school board specifically with the idea that the educational experience will be both synchronous and asynchronous to create more flexible access to the educational content of their courses (Castelo, 2020). This accessibility can allow students and parents to engage with educational content at their convivence but still need to adhere to attendance protocols which will be detailed in their respective section.
Along with the flexibility aspect of Canvas we also chose this platform for the ease of deliverable feedback to your students. Timely feedback on a student's performance is crucial in enhancing a student's learning and achievement (Stenger, 2014), therefore by using the Canvas system which streamlines the process of grading assignments and allowing for specific feedback we can have students create more meaningful learning experiences in the distance setting.
Canvas also helps with teacher communications to makes it easy for you engage with your students instructor for the course. These features helps the teacher create transparency in the classroom and helps create clearer communication around assignments. One way they did this is by including message boxes to all assignments for communication between student and instructor. For younger students this is very useful for providing focus on what assignment is in question and quick and specific feedback for the assignment in question.
With Canvas and these best practices for online education we can start off on the right path to have the best learning experience that you can have in distance learning.
