Orchestra Levels for 2025-2026
Intermediate Orchestra
Prerequisite: 9th-12th grade, 3 years in orchestra and/or private lessons, completion of Middle School Advanced Orchestra with a B or better and/or teacher recommendation
This one-year course is designed for students who have successfully completed an intermediate orchestra course and/or demonstrated the required skills by audition. Areas of emphasis include advanced concepts in music reading, specific performance techniques of the instrument being studied, tone production, and intonation. Instructional practices incorporate integration of diversity awareness including appreciation of all cultures and their important contributions to society. The appropriate use of technology is an integral part of this course. This course fulfills either one of the elective credits or the Arts/Humanities credit required for high school graduation and may be repeated.
Course fee is $50.00 + $25 Coaching Fee = $75 Orchestra Pack
Optional travel offered to students and based on student commitments. Fundraising to be provided for partial payment.
Sinfonia
Prerequisites: 9th-12th grade, 3 years in orchestra and/or private lessons, completion of High School Intermediate Orchestra with a B or better and teacher recommendation.
This one-year course is designed for students who have successfully completed a High School intermediate orchestra course and/or demonstrated the required skills by audition. Areas of emphasis include advanced concepts in music reading, specific performance techniques of the instrument being studied, tone production, and intonation. Instructional practices incorporate integration of diversity awareness including appreciation of all cultures and their important contributions to society. The appropriate use of technology is an integral part of this course. This course fulfills either one of the elective credits or the Arts/Humanities credit required for high school graduation and may be repeated.

Advanced Orchestra
Prerequisites: 9th-12th grade, 3 years in orchestra and/or private lessons, completion of previous orchestra with an A or better for two consecutive semesters, audition, and teacher recommendation. Private lessons recommended.
This one-year course is designed for students who have successfully completed a High School intermediate orchestra course or above and/or demonstrated the required skills by audition or previous Coronado Orchestra enrollments. Areas of emphasis include advanced concepts in music reading, specific performance techniques of the instrument being studied, tone production, and intonation. Instructional practices incorporate integration of diversity awareness including appreciation of all cultures and their important contributions to society. The appropriate use of technology is an integral part of this course. This course fulfills either one of the elective credits or the Arts/Humanities credit required for high school graduation and may be repeated.

Chamber Orchestra
Prerequisite: 9th-12th grade Completion of previous Orchestra with an A or better, audition and teacher recommendation. Private lessons STRONGLY recommended.
This one-year course is designed for high school students who have successfully completed an advanced orchestra course and/or have demonstrated competency through audition and want to explore chamber ensemble performance techniques. Major topics include advanced small ensemble performance skills, live performance opportunities, and the study of orchestral chamber music in a range of historical periods and cultures. Instructional practices incorporate integration of diversity awareness including appreciation of all cultures and their important contributions to society. The appropriate use of technology is an integral part of this course. This course fulfills either one of the elective credits or the Arts/Humanities credit required for high school graduation and may be repeated.

Students in Chamber Orchestra will be expected to participate in a Chamber Orchestra trip. Fundraising to be provided for partial payment.
