Concurrent and Credit Retrieval Options

APEX
APEX is an Arbor View based online independent study program geared to help students earn credits that were previously failed.
Nevada Learning Academy at CCSD (NVLA) is a public online school that integrates technology and individualized learning. Classes are available online 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, in a highly innovative, interactive and personalized learning environment. Students complete coursework with direct instruction and support from highly qualified content area teachers. High School courses are fully online and extend from credit recovery and remediation to honors and Advanced Placement. High School students may select a Career Pathway that will provide technical, job-specific skills in Health Science and Information Technology. Credit-by-Exam is also available.
Part-time enrollment for CCSD students is through the home school counselor. Part time enrollment is subject to course enrollment fees.
High school students who are 17-21 years old, who are credit deficient, and who meet the criteria for attaining a high school diploma can enroll at Desert Rose High School, a credit retrieval school, as full-time students. Course offerings include career and technical training that can lead to prospective employment opportunities.
Individuals who are at least 18 years old can enroll at Desert Rose Adult High School. Desert Rose Adult High School offers full-time and part time services during the day, afternoon, and evening hours. Students engage in course work that leads to the Adult Standard High School Diploma. In addition to core courses, career and technical education course opportunities are available.
Sunset Schools
Sunset High Schools provide a non-traditional academic program for students who desire a non-traditional education. These programs operate during the evening and offer concurrent enrollment and full-time enrollment options.

Adult Education is an educational program designed to serve adults and out of school youths, 18 years of age or older, who desire to earn a high school diploma or a Nevada State Certificate of High School Equivalency. There is no fee for full-time Adult Education enrollment. Adult Education also serves concurrent students primarily enrolled at comprehensive or non-traditional schools who desire to make up credits. Concurrent student paperwork must be completed at students' primary high schools prior to registration. Cost for concurrent students is $100 per, credit course.
Dual Credit
High school credit can be earned for approved college/university courses not offered at the student's school of enrollment. A three credit college/university course equals one-half unit of high school credit. Administrative approval must be obtained prior to the first day of the course participation. Contact your counselor to discuss your academic plan and get the application.
External Credit
Guidelines For External Credit
All external credits require prior approval from the student’s school of full-time enrollment. Appropriate supporting documentation must be provided for pre-approval and final approval. External credit can not be granted for courses where credit has already been granted, for courses in which the student is concurrently enrolled, or for courses at a lower academic level than previously taken.
Community Service
0.5 elective credit will be granted for volunteering 60 hours (1.0 credit for 120 hours) of time at a school‑approved community agency (1 credit max). Student must provide an hourly service log signed by an agency supervisor.
Physical Education II Waiver
1.0 Physical Education credit (required for graduation) will be waived for 120 hours of activity completed under the direct supervision of a qualified instructor/coach who is a credentialed or licensed professional in that activity. To be approved, this activity must be geared toward competition and student must submit, a signed hour log, instructor credentials, and proof of competition.
Work Experience Program
Students may earn an elective credit for jobs held outside of school (1 credit max). Students who work a minimum of 270 hours per semester credit may be eligible. Contact Mrs. Barbee barbem3@nv.ccsd.net for more information.
Summer School

Student’s have multiple options for summer school programs this year, all of which are free of charge. The program that is right for your student will depend on the student’s summer schedule, the number of credits the student needs to recover and the preferred learning environment. Each of the summer school programs are intensive learning programs and require students to be committed to participation. Students may only enroll in one of the following program options:
Battle Born Youth Challenge
Voluntary Youth Challenge Academy - focus on reclaiming the potential of teenagers through education, training, and service to community
