GEAR UP stands for "Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs." This federally funded program increases the number of students in low-income communities ready to successfully transition to and through post-secondary education. We do this by building college-going cultures, providing services and support to prepare the whole student, and equipping their families, institutions, and communities to promote and sustain student success.
UNLV GEAR UP will work with ALL (regardless of citizenship status) 9th-grade students and add a grade each year after. Some of these programs include, but are not limited to, once students’ 3-part surveys are electronically submitted:
Scholarship Workshops • NCAA Registration
Tutoring (in class/after school) • Leadership Development/Mentoring Activities
College Fairs/College Visits • Classroom Presentations
College Preparation Workshops • Career Exploration
Credit Retrieval (APEX) • Academic Planning
Counseling and Advising • Educational Field Trips
Leadership Development • More!
