A General Assembly (GA) is the most standard type of committee in a MUN conference. In the UN, the GA is the largest body and is the main policy-making organ. The GA itself is composed of many subsidiary organs. The most common GA committees in MUN are Disarmament and National Security (DISEC), Economic and Financial (ECOFIN), Social Culture and Humanitarian (SOCHUM), Special Political and Decolonization (SPECPOL), and Legal. The sixth UN GA that has never been used in a MUN conference before is Administrative and Budgetary.
GA committees generally have the most delegates out of every type of committee. Parliamentary Procedure is utilized in these committees, rarely with any modifications. While GAs are typically the starting point in someone's MUN career, they continue to pose challenges for advanced delegates. Often times, with over 150+ people present, it takes significant persuasiveness, patience, and preparation to be successful in a GA.
