Fukushima Fieldtrip
Planning for the Fukushima Field trip (Thursday, August 3 - Friday, August 4, 2023)
All participants will be required to check out of Ours Inn Hankyu on the morning of August 3rd.
You will need to pack an overnight bag to bring on the bus with you. There will be a designated room at the Ours Inn Hankyu. to store your main luggage while we are away at Fukushima (the room number will be given the morning of August 3rd.
On the morning of August 4th bring your luggage with you to put on the bus when we leave for the tour.
Precautions for Visiting Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station
Please confirm and agree to the following procedures and precautions before visiting the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant, based on the premise of "safety first" and "observance of nuclear material protection and safeguards". Please be sure to read the following information.
Countermeasures against infection by COVID-19
Visitors who are infected with COVID-19 or who are not feeling well (fever, cough, fatigue, etc.) are not permitted to visit the site.
Please wear a mask during the tour and while entering the Decommissioning Site.
Identification
For your identification, your passport (original) will be required on the day of the tour. If you forget your passport, you will not be able to visit the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant.
Luggage, valuables, food, and beverages
No baggage, valuables (including jewelry), cameras, cell phones, smartphones, smart watches, etc. can be brought into the power plant. During the visit, such items will be locked in the conference room or lockers and kept under strict control.
No Food, beverages, and cigarettes can be brought into the power plant due to the possibility of internal intake of radioactive materials.
Items that may be brought in are writing utensils, notepads, IC recorders (SD cards are not allowed), and dosimeters, which must fit in your pocket. If you would like to bring IC recorders (without SD cards), you must apply for them in advance.
Clothing
Please wear "long sleeves" (shirts will be provided to participants), "long pants," and "socks" to avoid contact with radioactive materials on your skin. Please wear athletic shoes with flat soles (no sandals, clogs, or heeled shoes).
Radiation Control
Visitors are requested to wear radiation protection equipment and personal dosimeters prepared by TEPCO to enter areas where radiation control is required.
Please be advised that you may pass through areas with high radiation levels (approximately 300 μSv/h).
During the tour, please follow the instructions of the tour guide to ensure your safety and compliance with laws and regulations. Please be advised that the tour may be canceled if you do not follow the instructions of the tour guide.
In the event of a disaster, trouble, etc.
In the event of a natural disaster, inclement weather, or trouble at the power plant, the tour may be changed or canceled, or the power plant may be evacuated from the site.
Physical Considerations
If you have received radiotherapy such as RI administration at a medical institution within the past 6 months, please inform TEPCO in advance of your visit, as false positives may be detected during the contamination inspection due to residual RI administration in the body.
If you have any medical conditions or physical disabilities that require special consideration (i.e. pacemaker), please inform TEPCO in advance.
Pregnant women are not permitted to visit.
In the event of an emergency, first aid support will be provided to the extent possible, but please understand that you are ultimately responsible for your actions.
