This is for the immediate use of the firefighter in the aftermath of a disaster such as sudden illness, bereavement or personal disaster. The maximum limit under this scheme is $250
Used for ongoing needs such as medical care and expenses where care is ongoing.
A one-off payment for a specific need, for example special wheelchair.

Note: loss of employment is not considered a disaster for the purposes of the NSFBF.
All applications for funds MUST come from the relevant department Chief or Deputy Chief. Applications from individuals will not be considered.
1) Read and understand the eligibility criteria and Disbursement Policy below.
2) Complete the application form and submit via email to info@nsfbf.com
3) For Immediate need applications, allow 7 days for a response (Although we always endeavour to respond sooner.)
4) For ongoing and extraordinary need applications, these will need to be reviewed by our disbursement committee which can take up to 6 weeks for a response.
5) Funds will be disbursed to the applying fire department which will then be given to the individual in need.
In order to ensure that all applicants are bona fide members of the Nova Scotia firefighter community, the following criteria are applicable for all classes of applications.
Active member of a fire department in Nova Scotia in good standing meeting the criteria for the Federal tax credit for the previous three years.
For all categories, approval of the department Chief required. Or in their absence the Deputy Chief.
No funds will be disbursed for memorials or fire department equipment.
Requests will only be accepted for active Firefighters and their immediate family (i.e. spouse or children. Parents and other family members are not eligible)
At this time, funeral expenses are not eligible.
