Peter Simpson was once an influential building industry association CEO in Toronto and Vancouver, and until his retirement seven years ago, he was President and CEO of the Greater Vancouver Home Builders’ Association (GVHBA).
During his career, Peter served on many industry, community and government advisory boards, committees and task forces. He received numerous local, provincial, national and international housing industry awards and distinctions, including the Canadian Home Builders’ Association Award for the "most effective voice on behalf of the Canadian residential construction industry" (twice) and the national Executive Officer of the Year (twice).
Following Peter's induction into the GVHBA Hall of Fame in 2012, the association created the Peter Simpson Award, which is presented annually to a GVHBA member who exhibits a high level of integrity and ethics.
The Lower Mainland Local Government Association honoured Peter for his commitment to forging a positive and mutually beneficial relationship between the homebuilding industry and local government elected officials and senior staff throughout Metro Vancouver.
Since his move to Nova Scotia, Peter was appointed by the provincial Finance Minister to the Selection Panel on Adjudicative Committees and Boards for the Department of Finance and Treasury Board, specifically the Securities Commission, and the Minister of Community Services appointed Peter to the Board of the Western Regional Housing Authority, where he was subsequently elected Board Chair.
Peter is also Chair of the Planning Advisory Committee for the Municipality of the District of Lunenburg.
Peter is proud to serve as a volunteer firefighter and medical first responder with the Dayspring & District Fire Department, and is President of the department's administrative body, the Executive Committee.
In addition to participating in numerous hands-on fire-service training sessions, Peter completed courses in Tactical & Strategic Decision-making for Fire-ground Operations, Incident Scene Safety Officer, and Local Assistant to the Fire Marshal.
