By fifth grade, our students have learned a lot about the natural environment around them. This year, their time in Environmental Education will be focused on forestry management - what is it, why we do it, and how it's done. From invasive species, to forest pests and threats, all the way to how wildlife managers make decisions on how many deer to harvest, our fifth graders start pulling a lot of different concepts together to learn about how humans have affected - positively and negatively - our forests over the centuries, and how modern forestry management strives to ensure we enjoy a diverse, healthy forest in northern Minnesota long into the future.
