Health Education is a required course for graduation designed to help students develop the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to make informed decisions about their health and well-being. This course promotes lifelong wellness by focusing on the 8 Dimensions of Health.
Skills based class with emphasis on decision-making, communication, goal-setting, and advocacy skills that empower students to make responsible choices and contribute to a healthy school and community environment.
This skills based curriculum will focus on the following content areas:

TOOLS FOR CHANGE

This course is designed to help students develop the personal and interpersonal skills needed to succeed in school, relationships, and life. Using Sean Covey’s The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens as a foundation, students will explore timeless principles of effectiveness such as responsibility, goal setting, prioritization, teamwork, self-awareness, and renewal. Through engaging discussions, reflective journaling, projects, and real-world applications, students will learn how to build positive habits that promote leadership, self-confidence, and resilience.
By the end of the course, students will understand how to take initiative, make responsible choices, manage their time effectively, communicate with empathy, and work collaboratively with others. The class encourages growth in both character and competence, empowering students to take ownership of their future success.

FIRST AID - RESPONDING TO EMERGENCIES
20 Weeks | 1/2 Credit | Grades 10, 11, 12 | Course Number: 0198
American Red Cross fee is required for certification. This course can be taken for school credit only, which will require no fee.
This course prepares students to recognize and respond to a variety of emergency situations and to provide care for injury or sudden illness until advanced medical personnel arrive. Using the American Red Cross Responding to Emergencies curriculum, students will gain hands-on experience and knowledge in CPR (adult child and infant), AED use, first aid, and basic emergency response skills.
Students learn to assess the scene and the victim, provide lifesaving care, and make informed decisions under pressure. The course emphasizes personal safety, teamwork, and the importance of being prepared to act in critical situations at home, school, or in the community. Successful completion of course requirements may lead to American Red Cross certification in CPR, AED, and First Aid.

● Adult, child, and infant CPR and AED use

The American Red Cross requires a small fee for certification in CPR, AED and First Aid. To take this course at one of the local American Red Cross chapters a participant would have to pay $150 dollars. Taking this course in school allows for this discounted rate (in the $20 range).
Please note there is no fee if a student is only interested in receiving school credit for this course.
ADULTING 101

12th graders will get preference in the scheduling of this class.
Are you curious about navigating adulthood without always seeking help from others or relying on Google? Tired of feeling overwhelmed by daily tasks? This course offers hands-on, interactive lessons designed to empower your learning experience. Each semester is tailored to your needs, creating a personalized journey. This student-driven course is supported by our community, with priority given to 12th graders for scheduling.
In this course, students will:
● Interact with community members through engaging guest speakers
● Navigate everyday life with relationships
● Learn self-defense and self-awareness techniques to enhance vigilance and confidence.
● Advocate for their community through volunteering (field trip)
● Develop practical problem-solving skills in a supportive environment
