Units We Cover
In Sixth Grade Social Studies we study the eastern hemisphere. This year we study just under 5,000 years of history beginning with cave man and the ancient world and finishing with the Age of Imperialism. We begin with a review of map skills and geography. We then study the beginnings of man and the first civilizations. These civilizations include 4 ancient river valleys - Mesopotamia, Egypt, India, and China Next, we move on to the Classical Civilizations of Greece and Rome. After that we learn about the Middle Ages, the Renaissance, and the Protestant Reformation. We will finish up the year with the Arab World, the Industrial Revolution, and The Age of Imperialism!
Throughout the year, we will also study the religions of
Hinduism, Buddhism, Judaism, Islam, and Christianity.
