#5 How I Built This

Podcast: Planet: Will Marshall and Robbie Schingler

Although I could not find a podcast from the list that was specifically about math, I did find a related topic having to do with engineering and new technologies. In the episode they describe how they got jobs at NASA and went from employees to the owner of their very own space/satellite company. They focus on small affordable satellites to take images of the earth to track all sorts of things.

Although Rocket Science and Starting a business are both challenging on their own, it is possible to do both at once with commitment effort and the right support system. This podcast showed me it is possible to do incredible things in limited time with the proper mindset.

Another thing that this podcast showed me is that innovation doesn't have to come from an expensive laboratory at a research company but can happen In your backyard or garage. I specifically like the mention that their company started in a garage where they put their skills from NASA to work. Although most people don't have the skill set these two did it is still motivational to know so much is possible from the comfort of your home.

Finally I think this podcast shows us that it is possible to raise interest in space and science by encouraging the spread of small scientific firms and raising interest in schools. I personally am going into a STEM field and even though STEM classes are prioritized in school, they are not made to be the fun an interesting field that it could be. STEM should be better encouraged and made fun for the future of the planet and the species.
