Reflection #2

Goal #1: Learn 3 New units.

I made this part of the two week plan a lot lighter due to my second goal as well as I wanted time to accomplish some of my goals. I think this was a little too light for future two week plans however this was a good fit for this one due to other time constraints. Although I had many other things goin on I was still able to finish 5 units. I enjoyed learning the more difficult trigonometry units but it took me quite a while to fully understand the concepts. Some of the concepts we will learn at the end of the year and others we won't.

Goal #2: Finish Eagle Scout Application by 18th birthday.

I am proud to say that I accomplished this goal. It has been very important to me for quite some time. However this goal took many hours and lots of work. The amount of work was actually so high that I fell behind in a few of my classes. As soon as I finished my application I began to work on catching up on my classes, core classes first. So now I’m finishing up this work.

Goal #3: Ask my friends what concepts are the most challenging.

I had several conversations with some of my friends that are also in precalc. The most common thing people said was stuff regarding the unit circle and trigonometry functions. (sin, cos, tan, etc.) One of the units I learned which we would be learning later in the year were the law of sins and cosines. This unit was the most time spent because it was difficult to understand at first but after a while I mastered it. This would be a good unit to make lessons for my friends.

Goal #4: Make lessons via Youtube.

I have started planning my videos but have not had a chance to record them yet. My plan is to get some way to hold my phone in a way that I can record my desk. Then I would start by introducing the concept. After the intro to the unit I would do problems increasing in difficulty to demonstrate the skills.

Reflection:

Although the goals for this cycle were far more realistic than during the first two week plan, My progress was still impeded by my second goal. I spent quite a lot of time trying to get my eagle scout application done over this period as my birthday was during this time. I spent 8-10 hours over the two weeks just to finish my eagle scout application. I submitted it on my birthday which is a huge relief. Hopefully I will be able to spend more time on my project for innovations and other classes in the future. I wish that I had had more time to work on my lessons but I think this week and for the future I will shift my focus towards making lessons to help my friends. I want to publish two videos next cycle about the laws of sins and cosines. I think my goals were more accurate in terms of workload than in the first two week plan. Hopefully I will complete all four goals next cycle.
