We are so excited to get to know students who are new to our Trottier community! As excited as we are, we know that our students and/or parents may be nervous about this transition. Rest assured - the Guidance Department is committed to making this a positive experience!
Our small department consists of two Guidance Counselors (Mrs. Anderson and Mrs. Morgan) and one Focus Study Instructor (Mrs. Palmer). We work together to help our students with the academic, social and emotional challenges that come with early adolescence. Mrs. Anderson and Mrs. Morgan meet with students in small and large groups as well as individually. Typically, we see students at their own request or through the referral of other students/teachers/parents. Our student conversations are confidential. However, if a student tells us something that concerns us about their safety, we are mandated to break that confidentiality and contact school administrators and parent(s)/guardian(s). Confidentiality is key in building trust with our students; however, their safety is our number one concern.
Mrs. Palmer’s Focus Studies have helped numerous students to stay organized, complete their assignments, and reach academic success. In this small-group environment, students learn how to manage their time and prioritize their responsibilities. In addition, Mrs. Palmer helps her students to explore their learning style(s) and study strategies that work for them.
Throughout the course of the school year, Mrs. Anderson and Mrs. Morgan present grade-level Guidance lessons. These lessons are geared toward the developmental level of the students and focus on crucial topics. Such topics may include: perspective taking and social skills, empathy training, mental/emotional health, diversity appreciation and understanding, drug and alcohol awareness, and transitioning to high school.
If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s Guidance Counselor. We are happy to help!
