Who goes to see a Guidance Counselor?
Anyone! Your Guidance Counselor is available for all students. Students frequently see their Guidance Counselor for assistance with their schedule, academic help, high school planning, friendship turmoil, and emotional support.
How do I access my Guidance Counselor?
You can access your Guidance Counselor throughout your school day. The optimal times may be during your homeroom period, recess, lunch, and/or study hall periods; however, your teachers recognize that you may need to access your Guidance Counselor during class times as emotional needs arise.
Will my conversations with my Guidance Counselor be kept private?
Your Guidance Counselor is dedicated to helping you through the challenges of middle school. They understand that trust is developed over time and, with that in mind, they work to keep their conversations confidential. However, their students’ safety is their number one concern. If a student shares information with his/her Guidance Counselor that concerns their counselor about a student’s safety or well-being, confidentiality must be broken in order to keep students safe. When the Guidance Counselor breaks confidentiality, she must tell school administrators and parent(s)/guardian(s).
What do you do during lunch groups in the Guidance Office?
Lunch groups are available to anyone! The primary goal of lunch groups is to provide a comfortable environment (outside of the cafeteria) in which to have fun and interact with peers.
If I talk to my Guidance Counselor, can I drop one of my 8th grade electives or swap it for a different course?
Students are encouraged to talk with their Guidance Counselor if they should have any questions regarding their schedule. While every student’s unique situation is considered, we generally do not allow for students to swap or drop their 8th grade specials classes. These classes are intended to enrich our students’ schedules and broaden their educational experiences.
