NEW AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM STARTS TUESDAY

We are starting a brand new after school program this week. It will run every Tuesday and Thursday from 2:30 - 4:30 in October. Students will get to create a fall art project, get their homework/reading done, and participate in some fun PE games. Students will rotate through each activity. A snack will be provided. Call the office by MONDAY October 4th to get signed up. The program is limited to 30 spots, so call today.

Busing is available for students who normally ride the bus. Stops will be at Fairview Canyon Road, 500 N State, Peterson Lane, Indianola Fire Station, Indianola Church, Fairview Rancho #1, Fairview Rancho #2, and Day's Lane. Call the office to find out approximate drop-off times. All students will need to be picked up or ride the bus by 4:30 pm.

COLDER WEATHER

The weather will be changing quickly this week. Please make sure to send your students to school dressed to be outside in the weather. When it turns cold, we still play outside at recess. Students need the fresh air and a break from the classroom. Make sure to label all outerwear with first and last name. We already have about twenty hoodies in our lost and found.

WATER BOTTLES

We encourage students to bring a water bottle to school to keep at their desk. Make sure that it only contains WATER. It needs to be able to seal tight and not leak when tipped over.

BUS LANE

New this year, we have a late bus that comes every Tuesday-Thursday. If you are at the school participating in an activity after school, please do not park in the bus lane or the loading zone.Even after school, late into the night the buses use all of the schools for activity drop off points as a safe place to drop students off. Please spread the word, do not park in our bus zones. Thank you for your help keeping our students safe.

ATTENDANCE

Students who attend school regularly have been shown to achieve at higher levels than students who do not have regular attendance. This relationship between attendance and achievement may appear early in a child's school career. A recent study looking at young children found that absenteeism in early elementary such as kindergarten through second grade was associated with negative outcomes such as greater absenteeism in subsequent years and lower achievement in reading, math, and general knowledge. We have amazing teachers and support staff, but we need our students here, and on time, to work with them. Thank you for ensuring your child attends school every day.

RED RIBBON WEEK

October 11-15, the theme this yea for Red Ribbon Week is "DRUG FREE LOOKS LIKE ME". We want our students to be inspired to be happy, be brave, and be drug free. Our PTA will give red bracelets to every student in the school. They should wear them all week to remind them to make choices that will keep them healthy and active. We encourage everyone to dress up during Red Ribbon Week to participate in the fun.

Monday - "I'm Too Bright for Drugs" Wear neon or bright colors

Tuesday - "From Head to Toe, I'm Drug Free" Crazy hair or crazy socks

Wednesday - "Team up Against Drugs" Wear sports team shirt/jersey or sports wear

Thursday - "I'M RED-Y" To Be Drug Free" Wear red

Friday - NO SCHOOL - Teacher PLC and Professional Development Day

FALL BREAK

Fall Break will take place on Monday and Tuesday, October 25-26. We hope you are able to spend some quality time with your family.

HALLOWEEN PARADE

We are excited to participate in our Annual Halloween Parade. Since Halloween is on a Sunday, the parade will take place on Friday, October 29th at 1:00 pm. Students can wear their costumes to school on Friday. We will have a "normal: morning. After lunch, students will load onto a bus that will take them to 100 South Main Street. They will cross the road and walk along main street to the bank where they will cross the road again and walk back to Fairview City Hall where they will load the bus to take them back to school. We invite all community members to come watch the parade. Students being picked up early that day will need to be checked out at the office at school, not on the parade route.

READ EVERYDAY

Starting in Kindergarten, if a student reads 20 minutes a day at home, they will hear 1.8 million words per year. They will have read for 851 hours by 6th grade and on standardized tests, they will likely score better than 90% of their peers. This is compelling data on the benefits of encouraging your child to read. From the time your child is born, reading out loud is a positive influence. As your child grows, daily reading will help the brain make connections between the written and spoken word, widening vocabulary in the process. Remember, all students should be reading 20 minutes every night!

COVID-19 QUARANTINE PROTOCOLS

Standard protocol after an exposure to COVID-19 is to quarantine at home for 10 days from the date of exposure if your student is not fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and has not been diagnosed with COVID-19 in the past 90 days. It may be difficult for some families to quarantine at home for 10 days. In order to support in-person education while still trying to keep children and families healthy, options regarding K-12 school exposures have been developed. These options include:

  • Wear a mask at school for 10 days or

  • Wear a mask at school for 7 days, and then get tested. If your student tests negative on day 7 and does not have any symptoms of COVID-19, they no longer have to wear a mask.

  • Quarantine at home for 10 days or

  • Quarantine at home for 7 days and then get tested. If your student tests negative on day 7 and does not have any symptoms of COVID-19, they can return to school, or

The above options do not apply to household exposures. Students exposed to COVID-19 at home will be required to stay home and complete quarantine days before returning to school. As a reminder, we need everyone to continue to do their part by following these important protocols:

  • Wash hands or use hand sanitizer frequently

  • Stay home when sick

COVID-19 TESTING

North Sanpete School District in coordination with the Utah Department of health has established a program to conduct school-based COVID-19 testing of employees and students. This testing is NOT REQUIRED. It is COMPLETELY VOLUNTARY. This program is an effort to support continued in-school instruction while maintaining efforts to interrupt the transmission of COVID-19 in the school environment. Results of COVID-19 tests will be submitted to the Utah Department of Health in accordance with Utah Administrative Rule R386702. Please note that these tests are for NSSD employees and students only and will not be available for family or community members. Community members can contact our local health department at 435-462-2449 for testing.
