Fairview Elementary School Community Council
Those in attendance: Allynne Mower, Mike Wright, Jenny Cox, Christen Craven, Lela Hawkins
Briefly reviewed topics discussed during the December meeting. Mike Wright looked into what instruction is currently being given to kids in regards to Drugs. D.A.R.E. is used to help kids understand drug dangers, but in individual classes the teachers don't have time to teach additional information. The 6th grade receives more training and guidance than other grades.
Started the meeting off discussing upcoming Parent Teacher Conferences, which will be held Jan 30-31st.
Reviewed 2017/2018 Goals and Money spent. Total money spent for year so far is $24,633.65. This money has been used to purchase Chromebooks, 2 projectors, 90 sets of headphones and programs to assist our children with math and reading. The money is also spent on paraprofessionals that assist teachers with small group or one-on-one instruction.
Reviewed the middle of the year DIBELS testing scores in regards to Fairview Elementary school children. We went over each individual grade. Each grade is seeing progression and movement towards the 80% goal from the beginning of the year.
Results from DIBELS
Kindergarten - improved from 61%-64%
1st Grade - improved from 52% to 60%
2nd Grade - movement from 59% to 59% - closer observation revealed movement is still occurring.
3rd Grade - improved from 65% to 78%
4th Grade - improved from 55% to 60%
5th Grade - improved from 71% to 77%
6th Grade - improved from 78% to 82%
Upcoming PTA events were discussed - Feb. 12-16th will be Red Ribbon Week, Mar. 5-9th will be Literacy week, April - Book Fair will be held, & May - End of year activities.
Next meeting will be held on February 8, 2018 at 3 pm. Be thinking of ways to best use Trustland money for next school year. What do we need? What can we use?
Closed the council meeting by approving minutes of previous Community Council. Motion to approve was suggested by Jenny Cox and seconded by Mike Wright. The vote was unanimous to approve the previous minutes..
