How To
Log in With Clever
Use the Touchpad*
Using a touchpad may be new for your students. Spend some time getting them used to navigating with the touchpad.
*If you are a K-2 teacher get your students using the touchscreen to navigate the Chromebook. Introduce the following touchpad gestures as needed.
Use the Clever Portal to Access Frequently Used Sites or Set Bookmarks
While you can have students set bookmarks for sites they will be accessing frequently, this really isn't necessary with the Clever Portal. When K-4 students log into the Chromebook, the Clever Portal will open in the first Chrome tab. The Clever Portal contains links to applications that students will use like Wonders, Twig Science, IXL, Seesaw. Teachers can create links to other sites on their Clever Teacher Page which is shared with all students in their class. The video below will show students how to add bookmarks. While this is not necessary for students to do because we use Clever, this would be a skill appropriate for 3rd or 4th grade students. K-2 students don't really need to know how to set bookmarks.
Chromebook Special Keys
The top row of a Chromebook keyboard has several special function keys. Help your students understand what these keys are used for.
Keyboard Shortcuts
Keyboard shortcuts like those listed below can help your students do things faster. K-2 students probably don't need to know keyboard shortcuts. Keyboard shortcuts can be useful for students in Grades 3 and 4.

Shut Down
It is imperative that students shut down the Chromebook. In order for Chromebooks to receive needed updates, they must be restarted. Students should get in the habit of shutting down the Chromebooks when they are done using them for the day. Students should click the Status Area and then click the Shut Down button.
