NORFOLK TRACK AND FIELD CLASSIC
MEET REGULATIONS
Please Read Closely
Coaches and Athletes will enter the track facility through the south gate to the track.
Coach’s please check-in in the concessions storage area behind the concessions stand when you arrive. You don’t need to pick anything up. The big thing is we know your team is here if we are looking for someone.
All coaches and contestants must stay away from the finish line and the awards stand. Please stay behind the flags and streamers. The track and field area will be an unrestricted coaching area.
Once running events begin, the south gate to the competition area will be locked. Athletes and coaches wishing to enter or leave the track area must do so on the north side of the bleachers. Do not crawl over the fence.
Meet implements will be pooled. If you have a specific discus’ which you desire please let the coaches present know and they will have it checked.
The runways and the track are all-weather surfaces. Use 1/8" spikes only. Throwing pads are cement, no spikes are allowed.
Individuals preparing for upcoming events may use the infield for warm-up activities. Do not make camp on the infield. Camps maybe set-up outside of the fences, (away from the discus area) or on the north side of the bleachers.
All contestants will report to the clerk of the start upon the first call from the announcer. The starting clerks will set-up heats on the infield as races progress. For relay teams all members should meet with the starting clerk for instructions at the finish line. Hip Numbers will be used.
Upon completion of each event we will present medals at the award stand in front of the grandstand. The top six placers in individual events and first-third place relay teams will receive their medals on the award stand. Coaches may pick up 4th through 6th place relay medals at the press box after the event has been announced. Please stress to you athletes we will try to stay on the presentation schedule for each event. This worked very good last year.
Coaches of winning relay teams go to the award area after the race to make sure we have the correct names.
As teams may not have large numbers of individuals participating, please ask you athletes to be careful with their equipment. We do not want anyone to lose sweats or personal items.
Dressing facilities will be limited. Please dress at home if possible or see me when you arrive at the track for directions to the locker rooms.
The press box is a busy area - please allow these people to do their job. Event results will be posted on the bulletin board on the west side of the bleachers. Results for the meet will be available following the meet, in the newspaper or on the web immediately following the meet.** The results will be posted on the web site and the Daily News site as they are completed. You may want your local paper to be aware of the Daily News or Home page addresses so they can acquire information as it happens.
In the horizontal jumps, discus, and shot put the top competitor will be place last in the flight as everything is a final. The pole vault and high jump will list the best mark first. Starting heights will be determined by entrants on the day of the meet. Qualifying heights and weather conditions will be considered. We will be doing 4 jumps in the long/triple jump(s), and 5 throws in the shot and disc.
A games committee has been established, if you have questions go to the press box and have the committee paged.
School bus and van parking will be available across from the track in the old maintenance parking area. This area is preferred to parking along the street.
