Welcome!

 I am so excited to welcome you to my classroom.  I would like to give you some information that will help you as you start class with me. 

First, let me give you some background on me.  I was born and raised in Norfolk. I graduated from Norfolk Senior High in 2000. After a few years of traveling, I started my college education right back in Norfolk at Northeast Community College. Once I had earned my associates degree from Northeast, I continued on and received my BA  and Master's degrees from Wayne State College.  I am married with three sons, and three daughters. That’s right, if you are counting, 6 kids!  John, my husband, is a computer genius for Daycos. My oldest, Aiden, is 19 and is in his second year of college at Northeast Community College. He loves acting and vocal music. Wyatt, my middle son, is 14 years old and is a freshman at the high school. He loves playing soccer and Fortnight. He is also going to try tennis this fall. My oldest girl is Kenzie. She is 12 years old and loves to sing and doing crafts. She is going to joining both show choir and and cross country now that she is at the junior high! Our youngest son is Isaac. He is 11 years old and is in 6th grade. He loves Pokémon, Fortnite and legos. He also plays the clarinet and piano. Lauren, our middle daughter, is 6 years old. She has bright blue eyes and loves to sing.  She also enjoys shoes and playing video games with her older brother and his friends . The youngest member of our family is our daughter, Olivia. She is 4 years old! She is obsessed with Anna from Frozen.  She also loves animals and dancing. Besides teaching 7th grade SOAR and 8th grade Drama, I am also the technical director for the NHS theater department.  I enjoy reading, spending time with friends and family, traveling, scrapbooking, and baking if and when I get the chance! 

To be able to learn some pretty amazing and fun things in class, there are some materials you will need daily.  The school has issued a Chromebook for class work and a planner to keep track of your assignments and use as a pass to leave during class.  There are a couple things you need to buy and bring to class. You need pencils, a college ruled notebook, and headphones. All are required to be with you daily. 

Next, there are some expectations I have for you that you should know.  First, I expect that you will come to class prepared.  That means that you will bring all the required materials listed above with you every day.  It also means that you will have your homework completed on time. You will also need to follow three basic rules.  The first rule is to show respect to everyone in the room.  It is essential that every person is shown respect and consideration to grow and learn.  Therefore, I will not allow laughing at anyone, or making rude comments, even if they are in a “joking” manner.  The second rule is to respect everything in the room.  This also means leaving others’ possessions alone.  Don’t hide or move them.  This also means clean-up after yourself. Finally, my last rule is no flying objects.  If a friend asks to borrow a pen, don’t throw it at them, hand it to them.  If you need to put an item in the trash, put it in; don’t go for the three point shot.  This will make sure no one is injured by a misaimed throw.  Finally, I expect that you will ask for help when you need it.  I will do all I can to help you understand every concept, but if you are struggling, don’t wait for me to see a bad grade to know you don’t get it.  Be proactive and come get help on that tricky assignment.  I am at school no later than 7:40 every morning.  This is when the doors open for you.  Please come on up and get help.  I stay after school until at least 3:45 nearly every day except for Mondays because I have to be at the high school by 3:45.  So, come see me after school for help.  You can ask me to request you for Wednesday ELO. WELO only happens once a week, and I will pull you if I know a week ahead of time that you want me to.  This is a great time during the school day to come to my room for help.  You can also email questions,, and I will respond A.S.A.P. With all of the opportunities you have built into your day, there is no reason not to get extra guidance on an assignment when you need it. 

Finally, there are a few online tools that you need to become familiar with because they can be a big help to you this year.  The first is Infinite Campus. You will need a username and password to sign in. If you do not know what yours is, check with the office.  Infinite Campus is the program that will give you all your current grades. You will also be able to see missing assignments, calendars, and other helpful school information.  Another online source is your Google email and documents. Then, there is Google Classroom. At this location, you can find agendas, assignments, all of our classroom notes to help you on many assignments, videos, worksheets, and absent work when you miss class. Parents, if you would like to see what is going on in class, send me your email and your student's name. I can give you access through them. Also, I provide an abundance of information on my website. It would be good to bookmark, so you can always find it. Este año está volando, ¡y ahora es el momento de comenzar el cuarto trimestre en una nueva clase! Estoy muy emocionado de darte la bienvenida a SOAR. Me gustaría darte información que te ayudará cuando empieces la clase conmigo.                                                                                            

Primero, permítanme darles algunos antecedentes sobre mí. Nací y crecí en Norfolk. Me gradué de Norfolk Senior High en el año 2000. Para poder aprender algunas cosas increíbles y divertidas en clase, hay algunos materiales que necesitará a diario. A continuación, tengo algunas expectativas para ti que debes conocer. Primero, espero que vengas a clase preparado. Esto asegurará que nadie resulte herido por un lanzamiento equivocado. Finalmente, espero que solicite ayuda cuando la necesite. Haré todo lo que pueda para ayudarlo a comprender cada concepto, pero si tiene dificultades, no espere a que vea una mala calificación para saber que no lo entiende. Sea proactivo y busque ayuda en esa tarea complicada. Estoy en la escuela a más tardar a las 7:40 cada mañana. Aquí es cuando las puertas se abren para ti. Por favor, acérquese y busque ayuda.
