Lighting Crew Chief/Technician/Designer

In theater, the lighting crew and chief also known a lighting technician prepares and runs the lighting system. These individuals are in charge of designing and making the lighting effects based the vision of the director. 

Responsibilities: 

• Communicating with director to ensure the vision for lighting is upheld

• Rigging as well as running the needed equipment

• Listening to the Stage Manager for cues

• Running the lighting board during the show

• Up keep of all lighting equipment

• Staying current on new technology that would effect lighting a show

Qualifications:

College degrees are unnecessary.  On the job training is most effective.  Occasional training will be needed to stay up-to-date with advances in this field. Qualifications are available to pursue in 

• Art & Design

• Technical Theatre

• Performing Arts

• Electrical/Electronic Engineering

• Lighting Design and Technology

• Theatre Lighting Design

Skills:

• Excellent colour vision

• Good communication skills

• Deal well with pressure and deadlines

• Creative

• Technical ability

Share it with everyone on your crew, the director, stage manager, and assistant director. Make sure all information is complete.
