The makeup crew works to design and apply makeup to the cast of characters. Makeup is on the face, neck, hands, and any other skin that is showing. It can be used to enhance the look of a character, so the stage lights don't wash away their features. Makeup can also be used to change the person into a totally different character. Our makeup crew will also work with the costume crew.
A makeup crew often does more than just makeup. It just depends on the size of the production. They can work with wigs, when needed, and provide the actors with hair styles for every performance. In larger productions, these roles might be separate positions.
In theatre, they work closely with the costume designer/crew. We will partner with ours.

A college degree is often not needed. Creative skills and experience usually prove more important. People participate in trainee programs and freelance work to gain experience. Some useful qualifications like a level 2/3 National Vocation Qualification in hairdressing can help.
